About this product

Product Information

PATTON is a three-dimensional bronze bust of World War II field general George S. Patton (George C. Scott) who wrote poetry, fired pistols at strafing fighter planes, and loved America with a lofty and historical zeal. Tracing his personal rivalries with such generals as Rommel and Montgomery, his problematic treatment of his own men, and his nearly runaway contempt for diplomacy, the film triumphs as an enduring portrait of a complex and larger-than-life figure. PATTON was recipient of 10 Academy Award Nominations and winner of eight, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor--Scott, Best (Adapted) Screenplay--Francis Ford Coppola/Edmund H. North.

This film was required viewing,(repeatedly),in the Nixon cabinet,(from the book, Kissinger). It is an inspiring piece of cinema and worth viewing when all the fates seem to be against you. It was by far the best role G.C. Scott has ever played, next to General Buck Turdgedson in Dr. Strangelove. The 63rd. psalm verse I noted, in his prayer to almighty God in the sanctuary before giving his apology to the soldier whom he slaped. It is one of my favorite scenes in the movie. His reflections on battles fought long ago gives credence to his belief that he was a general in ancient times also. My father-in-law caught sight of the general in the Argonne forest in WWII. He also liked the film and said the portrayal was accurate.

  • Based on the true story of Gen. Patton

Outstanding portrayal of General Patton by George C. Scott. The movie primarily focuses on Patton's WWII involvement. Beautiful photography! The script was believable and all the actors seem to have done well. This movie definately belongs in the film library of a historian or militaria collector. School age children can view it - but only if the parent viewed it first (combat scenes and language). Note that this is the 1996 issue of an older movie and is in NTSC VHS format.

  • My Favorite Movie

Even though this movie leans to far to Patton's tough side, since Omar Bradley helped with the facts. I still thought it showed Patton's sensitive nature. From the opening speech to the very end, this is a great movie. It is also very accurate from a historical stand point.

  • Patton

I enjoyed this film when it was release to theatres and later bought a VHS copy which finally wore out from countless viewings. George C. Scott does an amazing job portraying the man who my own father served under in WWII. Even my dad says that Scott did the role justice.
