Works well as stand-alone data storage unit.
If you don't want your PC to 24/7 for support of the security cameras, this is your best option. It is designed for wireless cameras. It does require a hard-drive to be added which is not difficult. The problem, like with the cameras, is the confusion of which software to use. Video doesn't stay on
I received this a few days ago and finally had time to set it up yesterday. I installed a 4TB HDD, plugged in the monitor, mouse, camera and power. I could hear the HDD spin up, power LED lit up, finally the monitor came up and I was able to view the first start up screen for less than 30 seconds before the video shut off. I know the monitor is good (I've checked it with other devices). The HDD seems to be running fine (I tried unplugging the HDD to see if the video would stay on, and it actually stayed on for an even shorter amount of time). Without the camera plugged into the Data port, it doesn't turn on at all. I have no idea if I'm doing something wrong or if the device is defective. I emailed Amcrest, but have not yet received a response. (I'll edit this if they are able to ... I received this a few days ago and finally had time to set it up yesterday.
