This is a great series, as would be indicated by the fact that I have had it several times, loan it to people and never get them back. The story line with enough science in it to make it very believeable and the vivid depiction of psysic powers, as well as Celtic mythology all intertwined, make for a fascinating read. There are three more books in this series, The Golden Torc, The Non-Born King and The Adversary but it is one of those that you hate to finish because it is so engrossing. There is another, allied series with some of the same characters and the same general premis, Intervention, Metaconcert, Jack the Bodiless and Diamond Mask. Julian May is a terriffic writer. If you like Fantasy/Science Fiction, you should really enjoy this series.
