one of the best books ever!
i love this book and the entire 3 book series by philip pullman. it's very well written and so clever and presents challenges to the reader. my teen also loves this series and it's a great gift for a person with imagination from teen to adult.

The Amber Spyglass
Like the first two books, this last book of Pullman's trilogy is wild and exciting. You encounter things and beings that you'd never see even in your dreams, and Pullman makes them seem logical and believable. We discover how Lyra saves humanity (of various worlds). Her parents who have alternately been good and evil, finally land on one side of that fence. This book (and the whole trilogy) is a better ride than the world's most amazing roller coaster.Like the first two books, this last book of Pullman's trilogy is wild and exciting. You encounter things and beings that you'd never see even in your dreams, and Pullman makes them seem logical and believable. We discover how Lyra saves humanity (of various worlds). Her parents who have alternately been good and evil, finally land on one side of that fence. This book (and the whole trilogy) is a better ride than the world's most amazing roller coaster.

The Amber Spyglass by Philip Pullman
The third book in Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy and it is an entralling as the first for young adults AND adults alike! Pullman is possibly a literary genuis using the guise of fantasy to tell the truth about the universal experience of growing up. Complex, dazzling and enchanted, a wonderful book to finish off the trilogy with. Left you wanting for more!

Depressing
I think most trilogies follow a pattern - the first book is usually the best, the second book is usually all over the place, and the third book attemps to wrap it all up. However, this 3rd book is still all over the place (every other chapter focuses on different characters, and you just start to get into one story when the book jumps somewhere else - this is typical of middle trilogy books but it's really old by the third book), and the wrapping up it does is just horribly depressing. :(I think most trilogies follow a pattern - the first book is usually the best, the second book is usually all over the place, and the third book attemps to wrap it all up.
