    The problem with the early 'Avengers' is!

    There is absolutly nothing wrong with the early 'Avengers' series, per se. These were all very forward thinking television programs. Great for 1962. It's just it's filmed in 1961 England using 1950's technology. Primitive would be an underststement. They certainly tried their very hardest using what limited resources they had. But the faults will be glaringly obvious when veiwed. Especially the lighting and the film quality. The cimimatography is also somewhat lacking. If you compare this 1962 set to anything later you'll see the quality improve quite rapidly. Daring for it's time. Brilliant even. But wowfully inadiquate compaired with the later works. Unless your a 'dye in the wool' Avengers fan. I'd recommend you leave these early works ...

    An essential collection (for completists)

    The Avengers series one is apparently lost. So we don't have any episodes where Steed was the sidekick to Dr. David Keel. But we do have the series two episodes in this set where Steed became the main character, aided by three (!) sidekicks of his own. Not only do we get episodes featuring the astonishingly ageless and beautiful Honor Blackman as Mrs. Gale, but also there's Jon Rollason as Dr. Martin King, a sort of revision character of Steed's original partner. If that wasn't enough, there are also episodes featuring a third sidekick, nightclub singer Venus Smith, played by the appealing Julie Stevens. It's true the show, at this stage, was still trying to find it's legs but the episodes are clever and well performed. I enjoyed them all. Some have mentioned the poor production ...

    Excellent Classic Cult Shows

    I love the Avengers and very pleased A&E made the older ones available. However, I do agree with other reviews I've read that A&E could have done a better job on the restoration. Still worth it to see these beloved classics.

    Avengers forever!

    My absolute favorite show off all time! Honor Blackman is a joy watching her work the great Patrick Macnee. For show that's over fifty years old , the quality is quite good, Highly recommended!
