A must have for 10-bit camera owners, great color features
A must have for sunlight shooting, the ability to see true color in log with non destructive editing is a plus, scopes, monitor assist and HDD recording at just a tap is worth every penny, On a 480gb ssd I'm getting 1hr:25min of 4k at 24fps recording. On the fly playback, scrub, xml tagging, most of these features are easy to integrate into post production workflow. Plus the ability to use a 10-bit camera and explore the future of HDR this is the tool. The housing is what looks to be of mid grade plastic, adds a significant amount of weight if your rig is unbalanced, being almost twice the size of my sony a6500, you will want a cage to mount this to, I strongly suggest against using the camera shoe. In the end it is a game changer, I can see this being the ultimate DP monitor on set, a ... great tool for video making
i own two of these for dual camera shoots. They have proved to be very helpful in several ways. First they are bright enough to easily see out of doors. Many others are as hard to see as the camera screen in bright light. Second, they all you to shoot in HDR Prores HQ or 422 (which is what i shoot in) in 4k or HD. This allows you, if you are shooting in log, to see exactly what your video will look like...including lighting. before using these i was often a bit under or over exposed, but now i get it right every time. Third, they record to SSD drives that slip in and out of the recorder. The transfer dock has a USB3 connection and so large files transfer quickly. Also the ssds are less likely to get corrupted like other media. Finally, because i can use ssds (I use Crucial mx200 ... i own two of these for dual camera shoots. I use mine with two Canon XC10 cameras and shoot in 4k. before this it was almost impossible to edit the 4k and it required CFast 2 cards to record the 4k, which were always slow to download. i think this product is one of the best purchases i have made
