    Don't miss this

    This is the best character study you will see. Also a good chance to see Mr. Carson of Downton Abbey in his earlier days. Also the cook from Nanny McFee. Engaging story line with good ending. Not to mention one of Michael Gambone in excellent role. Reminiscent of the cook, the thief and her lover. You can't beat the period music.

    A Classic Use of Television and Imagination

    This English series is a brilliant blend of writing, acting and directing. The story goes from the imaginings of a writer to the composition of his novel to the writer's past and present, all interwoven with excellent selections of thirties music. I've loved this classic since it first aired here in the U.S. many years ago.

I have since watched it and found it to be as entertaining as the first time and will be watching it again in the near future. If you like Michael Gambon and an actor, you must watch this series. The BBC really does good shows.

    A Loopy Classic

    A loopy classic. Not unlike "The Big Sleep", almost no one can tell you what the heck is going on, but it's a riotous ride, and turns funny, touching mysterious and sad. The acting is beyond brilliant and the musical set pieces are more dazzling than any Vegas show.
