MY all-time favorite Seal album! One of his most deeply personal as well.
Seal may not look favorably upon this one even still (most likely on account of his noted breakup with actress/model Tyra Banks at the time), but 1998's 'Human Being' was exactly the album he needed to make in order to work out those pent-up emotions swirling around inside him. Truthfully speaking, I must say it turned out far better than he and producer Trevor Horn could've ever imagined. Title track and Lost My Faith (latter featured in the hit 1999 film 'Entrapment') were the big hit singles released from it, but State Of Grace, Latest Craze, Just Like You Said, When A Man Is Wrong, Still Love Remains, and No Easy Way also bear honorable mention. There's a strong, dark, and densely ambient vibe permeating the whole set that accurately reflects the emotional state Seal found himself in ... 'Human Being' eventually attained multi-platinum status, but to Seal's Warner label it was considered somewhat of a commercial letdown compared to his first two releases. I couldn't care less about what those corporate ignoramuses thought at the time (IF they actually had brains to think with, lol), only TRULY gifted artists like him can transmute emotional pain and suffering into lasting works of exquisite sonic beauty that most everyone can relate to in some way, shape, or form. That's why I consider 'Human Being' my No. 1 "go-to" Seal album to this day. Highly recommended!
