About this product

Product Information

One of the "top picks for specialized military holdings" - California Bookwatch JG 51 is one of the Luftwaffe's top wartime fighter units whose story has never been told in English. The unit's history encapsulates the fortunes of the Luftwaffe's fighter arm as a whole: the heady successes of the early months, the steady attrition and the growing strength of the opposition during the mid-war years, and the final chaos and collapse of the last days. The story works on other levels too: the diversity of aircraft types flown - biplanes, Messerschmitt and Focke-Wulf fighters, and even twin-engined ground-attack machines - provides for an interesting mix of hitherto unpublished images; and the wide range of markings and unit badges add colorful variety and are a bonus for the modeling fraternity. But it is, above all, the quality of the pilots who served with JG 51 that sets it apart. Through the war it numbered more Knight's Cross winners among its ranks than any other unit, and it is their stories, their successes, exploits and eventual fates, which brings this history to life.

Not recommended. Item was inadequately and loosely packed and arrived damaged and in pieces (see photos) and has lost all value as a result. Seller wanted me to do the legwork and provide evidence to the post office in person as opposed to offering a return, refund, partial refund, or other remedy. USPS will not take responsibility as there was no damage to the box indicating no negligence as expected (see photos). "Refunds not accepted" does not cover negligence in packing.

You can see from our feedback that we pack well. We, too, are extremely unhappy that item was damaged. Immediately responded to buyer that we would file claim and keep him updated, which I did. I do NOT control the post office and how they handle claims. As I don't have item, I cannot take it to post office as they demand. We insure items for a reason....so that claim can be filed and paid. Buyer is "assuming" post office won't pay.

  • Excellent Book!

Excellent historical book. This book is very detailed and is a nice read. It has more information on this unit than I've seen before. I recommend this book for any World War II buff or researcher. I like the first hand accounts embedded in each chapter.

  • Jagdgeschwader 51 'molders' (2006, Paperback)

it is excellence book about German WW II squadron 51 Molders which it has lot of details regarding of charcters and color plates of their aircrafts. I highly recommended this book for WW II references and modelers ethistics.
