About this product

Product Information

2K Sports and Blue Castle Games bring arcade baseball to home consoles with The Bigs. The game features high-energy animations and faster gameplay than traditional baseball games as well as larger than life players and stadiums. The primary game mode is the career-oriented Rookie Challenge, where gamers take a young player from spring training all the way to the World Series, with NBA Jam-style stops in every city along the way. Each stop provides three different challenges, and winning all three allows gamers to "steal" a player from the opposing team to help build an all-star squad. Defeating teams also opens up mini-games where players can earn points to upgrade their rookie in five key areas.

Developed by many of the same people behind EA Sports' MVP Baseball series, The Bigs is designed to highlight and accentuate the specific identities of individual players, teams, and stadiums. Star players have been given a heroic panache, teams known for great glovework will make more spectacular defensive plays than a team known for slugging, and stadium landmarks like the giant glove in San Francisco or Boston's famed "Green Monster" have been stylized and super-sized to outlandish proportions. To help further ratchet up the action 2K Sports has included a hard-rocking soundtrack featuring hits from groups like White Zombie, Stone Temple Pilots, Jane's Addiction, and The Stooges.

  • Great Game, but struck out on a few things

The Bigs is a great game. Great graphics, great fun, and great gameplay. From the get go I was impressed to see how well the pitching and the batting was incorporated with the movement of the wii-stick, but once it comes to throwing the ball to different bases it was difficult at first. After like a week of non stop playing I did get the hang of flicking the joy stick to throw to the 1st base, 2nd base, etc. but there was still moments when I wanted to throw to 2nd base but it goes to the 3rd basemen. This pretty much pissed me off along with the wacky effect that a outfielder can do a Jackie Chan wall push off 15-25 ft in the air to get a home run bound ball. But the game is fun, I played non stop and I do kind of like the rookie challenge. Problem with that is the rookie edit ...

  • The Bigs is worth checking out

Graphics: 7/10 The graphics are above average and they are smooth. There is nothing that makes this game stand out as next gen though. Sound: Great – 7/10 The music soundtrack is great, but the in game sounds and commentary is repetitive. Gameplay: Great – 7/10 Smooth animations, great single player mode, and fast arcade style, this is a fun game to pick up an play. Replay Value – Above Average 7/10 This is a good arcade style baseball game. It is fast paced, but gets old quick. Playing with others is the only benefit to this game. Overall – 7/10 This is a good, fast, arcade style baseball game, but it doesn't break any molds here. The power-up meter, and single player campaign make this game fun, and slightly addictive. Check it out.

  • Fun game

This is a very fun game if you like baseball. Hitting is fairly easy pitching is a little difficult and defense takes some practice. I wouldn't recommend this game for kids below 8 because you really have to understand all of the buttons. Overall this is a fun game with some practice and also has all of the starting mlb lineups and you can even add rookies and name them. It uses the movement of the wii remotes fairly well. My daughter loves this game.

  • Big Learning Curve, But Big Pay Offs! Great Wii Game

Here's the thing we this game, its takes your first few exhibition games to get used to the controls. Also starting a Rookie Challenge helps with this. It may seem like cumbersome controls, steep learning curves, and poor graphics. But then you're skills start showing up and you're putting up homers and blazing sliders against some of the hardest competition ever. And thats when the fun begins. If you like playing as your favorite team and going around the league whooping the other 31 teams, this game is for you. If it had online play this game would get 5 stars, but alas hopefully The Bigs 2 will.

  • Generation Difference

This is my 6 year old's favorite game. So it is simple enough for him, then the rest of us who complain about the controls are too old. My only problem is the pitching which involves twisting the remote. No matter how I twist, I never can throw the curve or other special pitches. I drives me nuts. Otherwise it is an entertaining game for kids and parents to play together. Other than my issues with the pitching motion, it is easy and becomes intuitive very quickly. In comparision to Madden '08, BIGS is easy to learn and play the game.
