About this product

Product Information

Announcing the prequel. From Heidi Murkoff, author of America's bestselling pregnancy and parenting books, comes the must-have guide every expectant couple needs before they even conceive--the first step in What to Expect: What to Expect Before You're Expecting . An estimated 11 million couples in the U.S. are currently trying to conceive, and medical groups now recommend that all hopeful parents plan for baby-making at least three months before they begin trying. And who better to guide wanna-be moms and dads step-by-step through the preconception (and conception) process than Heidi Murkoff? It's all here. Everything couples need to know before sperm and egg meet up. Packed with the same kind of reassuring, empathetic, and practical information and advice and tips that readers have come to expect from What to Expect, only sooner. Which baby-friendly foods to order up (say yes to yams) and which fertility-busters to avoid (see you later, saturated fat); lifestyle adjustments that you'll want to make (cut back on cocktails and caffeine) and those you can probably skip (that switch to boxers). How to pinpoint ovulation, time lovemaking, keep on-demand sex sexy, and separate conception fact (it takes the average couple up to 12 months to make a baby) from myth (position matters). Plus, when to seek help and the latest on fertility treatments--from medications and IVF to surrogacy and more. Complete with a fill-in fertility journal to keep track of the babymaking adventure and special tips throughout for hopeful dads. Next step? What to Expect When You're Expecting , of course.

  • Top favourable review

What to Expect Before You're Expecting is a nice book with good, pre-planning information.

Was looking for books on pre-conception care and planning, and found very little in that area. I was pleased to see that the creators of another great book on pregnancy wrote a book on pre-pregnancy. So thanks for it!

  • Great Resource for Baby Making

My husband are getting ready to try to have kids. I have not read the whole book yet, but what I have read is very informative. I am currently in the process of making changes to may eating habits and exercise habits to make room for baby. The book is also written in a playful manner (titles of chapters) so it is not boring and some of the things the book recommends are not discounted. It also has options on fertility treatments for people who may have trouble getting pregnant. Over all this book coupled with questions answered or suggestions made by my OB-GYN has prepared my husband and I for the next chapter in our lives with baby.

  • Great book for TTC couples

What to Expect Before You're Expecting is an excellent handguide for couples trying to conceive. It gives you great insight to the entire process and helpful tips and advice. My only complaint would be that this book, like all of the "What to Expect" series, tends to psych me out and make me think and feel things that are misleading. So if you tend to be be anxious about your body and it's tendencies then I would suggest only using this book as a reference guide when you have a specific question. Otherwise you might set yourself up for disappointment.

  • Love! Fast shipping, informative, good packaging

Awesome fast delivery and great packaging. Love the information packed into this book. Even if you're not ready to conceive there's still really good information in here that can help you to become healthier. Recommend for everyone.

  • Excellent Book!

This book is VERY detailed! Which is perfect since that is why I decided to buy it. I was looking for descriptive answers to my questions. The only thing I don't like is there is a lot of in between information. For example there are columns for father-to-be in the middle of a paragraph that don't necessarily need to be there. I love all the info but it gets a little confusing for that reason. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who is curious or needs more detailed answers and is like me and can't retain the info told in the excitement of the doctors office.
