A Surprising Movie About a Surprising Part of WWII
This is no "Hogan's Hero", but a pleasant telling of how an American and German pilot shoot each other down and end up in an Irish POW Camp. In order to remain neutral during WWII, Ireland treated POWs equally and ran the camp as if a "gentleman's war" was going on. The film is also the movie debut of Jean Butler, the talented and beautiful lead dancer of the original Riverdance show. Her dancing and budding acting talents are both well presented onscreen. But the underlying theme of the movie is it's dash of humor that the prisoners and their guards use in recognition of the ridiculousness of the situation everyone has found themselves in -- a war where no one is supposed to take sides.This is no "Hogan's Hero", but a pleasant telling of how an American and German pilot shoot each other down and end up in an Irish POW Camp. The Brylcreem Boys Based on actual events, this is a story of honor, courage, and passionate rivalries. In an effort to remain neutral, Ireland made a deal to intern any soldier, German or Allied, captured on Irish soil. During a dog fight, an allied pilot and German pilot are shot down and captured. The camp commandant tries to keep the peace between these sworn enemies. But, when both men fall in love with mattie (jean butler from riverdance - I love redheads :D) a fiery Irish beauty, thier hatred becomes personal. WWII prison camps in neutral Ireland
Very charming film about Ireland during WWII. Ireland remained neutral during the was, albeit it took prisoners from both axis and allies. A bit of romance, comedy and reality of war. I highly recommend this film
