A great basic all-in-one.
The Canon Pixma is a great printer/scanner for those who can do without such features as auto document feeding and automatic duplex (both sides of the paper) printing, or faxing. What it does do it does well, and is good as anything I have used. Down sides include having to fill it with ink from a bottle, which could be messy, but then you never have to buy expensive cartridges again! It does use a LOT of ink during setup, about 1/4 quarter to 1/3 depending on color, but the remaining ink will last me possibly for years. Obviously that will vary greatly based on what you print. The scanner is surprisingly noisy, but that's a minor annoyance. Most importantly, print quality is excellent, and a test scan produced an image close enough to the original, the only thing that is different is ... Linux however is frustrating and disappointing. Provided instructions are vague and pretty much useless. After reviewing linux commands in a book, I got the drivers installed. As Linux users probably know, Linux commands are a lot like DOS with an old PC. It's important to get good information and enter commands into the terminal carefully. Something as small as a misplaced period, (that's this . )can cause problems. To add insult to injury, the driver software you install, is crude and has very limited functionality. It looks much like a program installed in DOS years ago. Welcome back to 1984! Seriously, Canon needs to update their Linux support! Some reviewers say installing into a wireless network can be difficult as well. I haven't tried it so I can't comment on that. Overall the printer is a great value. As always, patience and research may be required for set up,. but it's all worth it in the end.

Lot of Guess work to the Canon G3000 printer
The G 3000 was hard to set up and then had to deal with Blinking light On/Off light and then go to U tube to find out what the blinking light was all about .Instructions in the box had nothing about Blinking lights . Filling the Bulk ink tanks was no problem . The it took for ever for the Ink cartridges to fill and get air out of lines that fill the inks tanks .The printer run about 6 minutes to fill ink cartridges .It took printing over six pages just to get good print and all colors working . Color quality would rate only average .Have to remove tape from bottom of ink cartridges . Had to go to U tube just to find out how to get ink cartridge carriage to center and pull out cartridge to check print head for tape etc .Plus side is do not have to stock a dozen ink cartridges . .can see ... Great Printer Super Economical Mega Ink Tanks
I am so happy with this printer. Finally I can afford to print out hundreds of photos of my lovey dovey wallpaper for all of my walls supermodel. I have over 6000 photos of my lovey dovey and I am selecting the best. The prints are not as dark as my old printer probably to conserve ink. I have gotten used to this and I love the print quality. It costs just a few cents maybe less than 4 cents per 8 1/2 x 11 print on plain paper. I tried photo paper but I am happy with plain paper. I think it cost around $1 per photo using my old printer with low ink capacity cartridges. Sometimes it is not working and I turn it off and on again and it works again. I hope this printer works for many years of happy lovey dovey photos. I also use this for business printing out invoices and small ... I am so happy with this printer. Pain in the neck to install!
However, after spending several hours trying to install and getting several error messages. i tried to print a document. i had to attach usb cable, turn off printer, then turn back on. The document printed to my amazement. I didn't think it was installed. Then i printed a picture and it printed fine. I would suggest trying to print, if you get an error during installation. You may get surprised like me. The photo was a light, but detail was very good. Document looks good, too!However, after spending several hours trying to install and getting several error messages. i tried to print a document. i had to attach usb cable, turn off printer, then turn back on. setting up was pretty straight forward if you just follow the directions. the only problem I had was setting up the specifics on printing. the color printing on plain paper was not impressive but good on photo paper. regular printing with a little color comes out pretty good. on a full picture kind of dull.
