In this installment of the James Bond series, Agent 007 (Timothy Dalton) is assigned to protect a Russian defector (Maryam d'Abo) from the KGB. When the defection proves to be an elaborate ploy, Bond woos her anyway, and together they follow a trail to a crooked American arms dealer supplying weapons to Afghanistan. Dalton finally assumes the role of Bond after refusing it 16 years earlier with DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER. The film is loosely based on Ian Fleming's short story, with Dalton's heavier Bond closer in spirit to that of Fleming's original creation.

Bond with a twist
Movie starts out the regular way, Bond + attractive girl in a situation. However, there are several identity shifts making it either entertaining or confusing. I liked this movie over some of the the outer space Bond movies.

Finally this Bond gets the DVD treatment it deserves
One of the best James Bond films, and arguably the last good one until the most recent Casino Royale. This one is the last film to have a true Cold War plotline, and it's no wonder the films suffered so much for a while after it ended. Bond was really a Cold War character. Rebooting the franchise is the best thing they could've done. That said, this installment has all the elements you expect from a Bond adventure, but Dalton's turn as a more serious (almost brutal at times) 007 was a refreshing change. Roger Moore was a great Bond, bringing more humor to balance the outrageous stunts, but after 15 years a new direction was needed to breathe some life back into the franchise. Living Daylights has been somewhat hard to find as a stand-alone release in some ares. Many places only offer ... The recent 2-disc edition features a solid transfer of the film, commentary from director John Glen, and a 25th Anniversary special hosted by Roger Moore (which by now looks a little dated but enjoyable for longtime Bond fans). There are a couple deleted scenes, and more features including the press conference where Dalton was introduced as the new Bond. Be sure of what you are bidding on! If you want this one, be sure it's the 2-disc "ulitmate edition" or you may not be getting all this with it.
