    Duncan SSL-3 - great for heavy mid alone, sweet spots at 2 & 4

    This Duncan SSL-3 is a overwound RWRP middle pickup. It is pretty dark on its own, but it really sweetens up when combined with a single coil in the bridge position (position 2). It gives a decent clean quack to the 4 position too. It can get some good heavy Smashing Pumpkins sounds in the three position (all alone) with some overdrive. Not a pickup that I would recommend if you need a sweet position 3 sound - pretty dark there. But a GREAT pickup to use in a guitar intended to play heavy rock but facilitating both sweet and heavy sounds at position 2 & 4 (depending on the distortions or lack thereof applied). A great middle pickup for versatile hard rock / clean strat variations. This is not a bright Tex-Mex strat sound (in 2 & 4 clean) just a standard strat sound, maybe a bit ...
