Reviews
Through all Ellen's joys and sorrows runs a thread of humor that makes the reader chuckle even when he is sympathizing with her., Ellen and her troubles are both funny and touching; we meet her trying to hide her long underwear at dancing school, and playing a substitute rat in The Pied Piper.' All is told with a downright realism, and the school scenes are choice.

  • Ellen Tebbits Purchase

I purchased the books because my class was going to do an author study. We wanted several copies of different titles written by Cleary. The purchase was timely and positive. One negative and it can't be helped is that not all the book covers are the same and the pages are not the same. So when I refer to a particular page, the children with the different cover often have to find their page.Just one book was different so that lone child always has to find her way.

  • A Book About Friendship

This is a darling book. It is about a third/fourth grade girl and her struggles with a new best friend. It appeals to kids because there's humor as well as drama, yet it is not as heavy as some of today's kids' novels. Beverly Cleary does an awesome job writing and relating to kids. The pace is fast and the words aren't too hard to comprehend and there is so much meaning behind the story. Ellen does something to her new best friend which she regrets. It is such a touching story--I recommend it to both boys and girls. My son enjoyed reading it especially because it wasn't too girlie.

  • A great story about learning to accept people for who they are without judgement.

Great childrens book. Teaches self-confidence and helps kids overcome insecurities.
