About this product

Product Information

One of the more popular -- and certainly more creative -- racing titles to hit the arcades in 1999 was Crazy Taxi, an offbeat game wherein the goal is to take various passengers to their destinations as fast as possible. The gameplay is open-ended: you decide who you want to pick up based on the waiting passengers' fare levels, which are indicated by the color of the dollar signs over their heads. Your job is to do anything you can -- including driving down sidewalks and cutting off other cars -- to get your customers where they want to go. Destinations can include such real world places as Tower Records and Pizza Hut. An overhead arrow points you in the general direction you should go.

In this port for the PlayStation 2, you can pick from the same assortment of cabbies to control: Axel, an all-around average guy; B.D. Joe, whose car is really fast but lacks traction on non-paved surfaces; Gena, who can accelerate and brake with the best of them; and Gus, whose car is the opposite of B.D. Joe's. The music in the coin-op version, which was supplied by the bands Bad Religion and the Offspring, is the same here, as are many of the environments. You race against the clock the entire time, and your customers give you tips for doing crazy stunts. The crazier the stunts, the more money for you. At the end of the game you receive a license that rates your level of performance. The aim here is to earn as much money as possible within the allotted time.

For the home version, the developers have thrown in more cars to unlock, such as a pedal taxi. They've also created a new course that is also set in San Francisco as well as a series of mini-games that you can play in order to unlock hidden cars. Each mini-game is designed to be more difficult than the last, and you can play them in any order you wish. The first set involves developing your skills as you try to pick up enough speed to jump a certain distance off a ramp or drive around a field popping giant balloons. In the next two sets you must take certain customers to their destinations in increasingly difficult scenarios. For example, in one of them you must jump ramps from one platform to another without falling in the ocean as you take a customer to the last one. Gamers with a memory card can use it to save their data and customized options.

Fantastic communication from seller and item shipped very fast. Console arrived exactly as listed and in very nice condition. I was very impressed with the care taken when packaging everything up, all items were individually wrapped with lots of bubble wrap and packaged so nothing moved around in the box. Crazy Taxi Rides Again!

I picked this PS2 conversion of Crazy Taxi for $20 bucks and it was well worth it. It’s a great Sega game given a good translation. It’s a blast of simple fun that closely approximates the Dreamcast version. If you can find it for the price I paid, grab it!

  • Great game on disc, doesn't play on PlayStation 3 80gb Backward-Compatible

This game was great in the arcade and on Sega Dreamcast and PlayStation 2. Its still a fun game that does not have much depth, but still is great to play when you need that release of aggression. It's inexpensive fun (especially if you buy it used), or reasonably priced if you buy it as a download on PlayStation 3. One warning; I have the 80gb PlayStation 3 which is backwards compatible with most PlayStation 2 discs, BUT NOT CRAZY TAXI! I learned this after buying the disc on eBay, and trying it out. I ended up buying the download anyhow. A fun note: when this came out on Dreamcast and PlayStation 2, I thought it had awesome graphics at the time. You'll get a great idea on how video games have really matured in 10 years immediately when you fire up the game. On a scale of 1-10 (10 ...

  • Crazy for Crazy Taxi!!!

I first played this game when it was originally released on the Sega Dreamcast back in 99 or 2000. I loved it then and wanted it, but couldn't afford the system. Recently got a PS2 and borrowed it from a friend and now have my own copy. Bad ass punk rock from Epitaph Records (Bad Religion and Offspring) are featured on this game, and all you do is drive like a psychopath to get your fares to their location as fast as possible, by any means possible! High intensity quick paced action. You get a higher tip for avoiding hitting the other cars and obstacles while weaving through traffic, jumping, driving over rooftops, through city parks and even under water! Lots of fun, great music, and a game you can play with your family since there is no bad language or blood all over the place. So ...

  • Favorite

I was very impressed about the quality of the video game and the disk itself. This is one of my son's favorite games and he requested it for Christmas and it came in earlier than I expected. I have to give them thumbs up for their expectation seceding more than I expect it.

  • Crazy Fun!!! A thrilling classic everyone should play at least ten times.

An absolute classic that has been brought to the record-selling platform PlayStation 2 to introduce the [once] modern generation of gaming to the most thrilling, zany, cartoon-style cabbie experience ever created. Crazy Taxi is the perfect driving/cabbie simulator for the everyday insane driver. Not only fun, but for an arcade game transitioning to a console, the graphics retain the classic styling with smooth, colorful environments; the perfect blend of retro experience with console convenience and rendering. With four unique, yet equally crazy, cabbies to choose from, you should find one that fits your personality. I completely love this game and could pick it up and replay it anytime. Guarenteed to be a blast every time you're ready to make some crazy money! "Alright, let's get it ...
