About this product

Product Information

Phantom Crash has players battling giant robots in a futuristic sporting event. The city of Tokyo has relocated to a manmade island due to the ravages of pollution and overcrowding. While the former location is no longer inhabitable by humans, it serves as the perfect battlefield for a sport called Rumbling. It quickly becomes a televised hit, and soon pilots of all abilities are sought to compete in this new form of mechanized combat.

Players can choose from a number of different pilots in Phantom Crash, each having his or her own type of armored assault robot or Scooter. Scooters can be further customized from cash earned in competition, allowing for different chassis, weapons, jump jets, and limb types. Combatants can lay siege in traditional bipedal models, or slink close to the ground in spider-like bodies and similar variants.

Each metallic monster is also outfitted with a special camouflage capability, allowing the unit to blend in with the environment to make surprise attacks, similar to the technique used by the Predator in the eponymous feature film. To combat this, players can rely on radar sensors to help pinpoint enemy threats. Camouflage can be disrupted by a direct hit or after running out of rechargeable battery power.

Phantom Crash supports up to four players using a split-screen viewpoint. Control makes use of both analog sticks, one to guide the legs, and the other to target. In this way, Scooters can aim independently of movement, allowing players to move in one direction while firing in another. The environment also plays a role in the game's strategy, as players can seek cover behind dilapidated buildings and structures.

Great buy, amazing arena battles... replay value

I played this game many years ago. it was developed in the late 90's and was revolutionary. As far as graphics and gameplay.... this game still rocks and is better than most games currently. I hope one day this game is re-mastered and a sequel comes out. I'm scoring it a 9.5/10 as it is vs its current competition./

  • Cool

It’s a good game, but it didn’t age well so it’s a bit strange giving widely mixed feedback.

  • Phantom Crash (XBOX)

By far one of the best mecha-games in the genre, much more fast paced than Mechwarrior and nearly infinite customization to your mech. Awesome weapons/mech designs as well as very easy controls to pilot the mech. Biggest and only complain is that there are only 4 different maps to fight on (almost all have night/day configurations however, so that adds some spice) Also (if your into electronica music) one of the best video game soundtracks out there. Overall a brilliant game that didn't get nearly the credit it deserved.

  • Best mech game to date

Better control scheme than most other mech games. Only 3 types of mechs to choose from on only 3 maps, each map has day and night fights. Every part for each mech type is very customizable. 199 options per part! color scheme can be changed as well. Even in game music can be purchased and arranged in different playlists. The only improvements to this game would be more mech types, maps, and a bit better ui. However, these problems do not detract from the fun gameplay, ease of controls, and the customizability. 5 out of 5
