Hairspray is amazing!!
I love love love this musical! John Travolta is fun to watch in this role! Zac Efron has an amazing stage presence and Niki Blonski is every entertaining! I absolutely love Queen Latifah's solo during the march, truly amazing! I listen to that song over and over! Another awesome musical added to my growing collection! Fun for all ages!

Hairspray Remake Makes The Connection With My Daughter
Just when I thought I'd never see a really cute movie again, along came the second remake of the 1988 film Hairspray, originally directed by none other than John Waters. You've got to remember the old one to really appreciate this one even though the first one had some really big stars such as Sonny Bono & Deborah Harry as the parents. We have to go back in time to the year 1962 again and pick up where the teenager Tracy Turnblad and her friend Penny Pingleton are watching the Corny Collins show and dreaming of how they could really fit into that scene. Tracy gets a chance to dance on the show and the rest is history. Her dancing skills attract Corny Collins, but also the attention of teenage heart throb, Link Larkin. But not everyone is happy with the decision to have her dance on the ... Although we faced various racial issues back then, we start to believe that integration may just as well be the way of the future after all if everyone would just all get along together. We also are face with having to realize that all our petty prejudices about looks, race, and body size are really so unimportant and immature that we should have these sorts of feeling towards one another. Thanks John Waters for making the second film possible and flashing us in your cameo as well. I give this a 4/5 because it's fun to watch and very cute. I just bought the video because I loved the movie.
Hairspray I hate to exercise, but I go to Curves two or three times a week out of a sense of obligation. The people in my family seem to be especially long-lived for the most part. If I'm going to live in this body for another fifty years, I guess I'd better take care of the maintenance. A week or two ago, I was at Curves and they had a stack of free passes to a movie premiere on the counter, for anyone who wanted them. I don't know if they were from Curves or if a kind member left them. Sometimes members leave things like that. I sometimes leave sugar-free candy with my business card attached. John arranged to get off work early so we could go. Once before, we won passes to Wild Hogs in a newspaper/internet promotion. We went as soon as John got off work. Even though we were there half ... Then, a security man came out and told us that if you have a camera or cell phone or any kind of recording device, you can't bring it in. Then he said, everyone who is a hairdresser, get in this other line. I noticed that most of the people in that line had really good-looking hair.Then they came out with black gift bags and gave them to everyone in the hairdresser line. They had some left, and they gave some to the rest of us. Guess what was in the bag? A can of hairspray! Then everyone in the hairdresser line got to go in first. I couldn't tell how long the line was by then. The line dissappeared around the corner beind some bushes in front of the historic Tower Theater. It seemed like hundreds of people were in that line. I was sure that they would fill up the theater and we wouldn't get in. It really looked like more people than could possibly fit in that theater. Then we finally got inside! And there were seats for us! The movie was supposed to start at 7:30, but it must have been after eight when it finally started. I think they delayed the start because there were so many people waiting to buy popcorn. Well, When the movie finally started, I loved it! It was probably the best movie I ever saw. I don't know exactly why the mother was played by John Travolta in drag, but it was really funny and he did a great job. I always loved Brittany Snow in American Dreams. It was hard to get used to the idea that she was the bad guy. Of course, she pulled it off fantastically. The only problem I had with this movie was that the audience was laughing so loud, I couldn't hear some of the lines. This movie had a lot of big stars. Christopher Walken was hysterical as the goofy father with a kind heart. Allison Janney played the mother of Amanda Bynes. She reminded me in some ways of my own mother before her disability made it impossible for her to function.Not the racism, just the obsessive overprotectiveness.And I don't want to forget to mention the young lady in the starring role, Nikki Blonsky. She was fabulous! A little girl with a big voice. Isn't that something they said about Judy Garland?When this movie comes out on video, I'm going to have to rent it and show my parents. I'm sure they'll love it. The only joke that was even slightly off-color was the climax of a song about hairspray when there was a reference to a lady needing "something stiff". I personally thought that this movie was one of the best movies ever. It has great action while still a movie about two soon to be lovers. It begins with by showing Tracy Turnblad, who lives in Baltimore, MD. Tracy goes to school, and it shows she doesn't truly like it. Everyday, while rushing home, she watches the Corny Collins Show. Her only dream is to become Miss Teenage Hairspray, which happens once a year. The cast, I believed, was absolutely superb! To start with, John Travolta plays Tracy Turnblad's mother, who would like to be supportive, but is worried about both of their weight, manly for Tracy's chances of getting on the show. Next, is Christopher Walking, who plays Tracy's Father. He can play the role of being very supportive to both Tracy's dream and Her mother's love for ... So will Tracy discover her dream? Will the show be integrated? You can only see by watching.

Hairspray!
I loved this movie!! I really liked the original and I'm a big fan of musicals so I was very excited to see this. My only problem with this movie is the way John Travolta looked. To me, this character, Edna Turnblad, is supposed to look like a drag queen. In the original movie, Divine played the part perfectly & all the men who have played her on Broadway have done the same. In this movie version, I felt like they made John Travolta look too much like a woman, and that bothered me. I resisted seeing the movie as long as I could, but was finally sucked in by the rest of the talent. I loved it!!! Still have some issues with Edna, but I can look past that.
