F.E.A.R. -- or "First Encounter Assault and Recon" -- is a first-person shooter set in a secretive complex full of government intrigue. Players take the role of a member of an elite squad of soldiers that's called in when conventional troops have failed. One such situation occurs when an unknown force infiltrates the complex, and the first strike Special Forces team sent to quell the invasion was decimated minutes after arriving on the scene. Now it is up the F.E.A.R. squad to isolate the invaders and eliminate them, before anyone else gets hurt (or any multibillion-dollar government equipment is lost).<br><br>The game's realistic, near-future setting and storyline feature elements of horror, supernatural vision, and even philosophical insight. The lead character is not given a name, in order to encourage the player to more fully assume the role, but well-developed teammate characters are designed to bring a personal context to the adventure. Enemy artificial intelligence is designed to produce believable human characters, as well, who work together as a deadly efficient, reactive team.<br><br>In addition to the single-player game, popular multiplayer modes such as Deathmatch, Elimination, and Capture the Flag are available. F.E.A.R.: First Encounter Assault Recon -- Gold features the Director's Edition of F.E.A.R. as well as the expansion pack, F.E.A.R. Extraction Point. The package comes on a single DVD disc, which includes six to eight extra hours of gameplay, new weapons and enemies, a "Making of" video, candid footage of developer discussions, and a machinima short, along with a complete copy of the full game.

    An ultra-intense action/horror title

    FEAR is basically a more action-packed version of the Ring, similar kinds of psychological scares and terrors, combined with the cinematic first-person presentation perfected by the Half-Life and System Shock games. It packs the intense kinetic destruction and slick slo-mo action moments that are normally the trademarks of John Woo films. And yeah, it's pretty much as good as you'd expect from that description. I love this game, it's an insane thrill ride that will probably scare the wits out of you on multiple occasions. The ending is crazy, probably one of the most memorable and possibly the most memorable game endings ever. If you're into horror games, intense action games, games that will challenge you, or games with memorable stories, look no further than this game. You won't be ...

    A Must-Play FPS, reminiscent of the Half-Life series for PC.

    Still an amazing shooter to this day. I first played this in 2010, now four years later it is still up there with my favorite fps titles for the PC. You'll find also that this first entry is the best in the series. I have played all three on PC, and the original is the one i return to most often. Highly Recomended if you consider yourself a pc gamer or FPS fan. A true must-play title in the vein of the Half-Life series.

    Great game

    Love the game. It is very fun and well made. Keeps my adrenaline pumping constantly. If your thinking about buying this product, do it. Also keep a watch out for the sequel project origin. CAN'T WAIT!

    Awesome First Person Shooter

    Awesome first person shooter. My favorite FPS series ahead of even Half-life. A truly scary experience. Buy this if you are looking for a great single-player. There are unfortunately better options on the market for multi-player, which is my only negative.

    No disappointments here, have no FEAR, kill them all !!!!!!!!!!! Video quality is awesome, better than some movies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
