The world of martial arts, to me, is full of highly opinionated people pushing for their particular discipline to be the end-all, catch-all of self-defensive tactics. I tend to sort through the mishmash and look for techniques that easy to employ, easier to muscle memory and of all else, easier to teach if I have to. The late Mike Echanis had a way with teaching his no-nonsense tactics and for that reason I peruse copies of his hard to find books. The grainy photos are a bit 70's but look at the overall technique and put it through YOUR paces. I like the man and wish he stuck around a bit longer, his autobiography should be written and the mystery of what happened to him in Nicaragua be revealed.
