About this product

Product Information

David Hall

In circulated grades, the 1920-S is quite scarce. It is rare in mint state and in Gem condition it is one of the major rarities of the Buffalo nickel series. For the non-varieties, in Gem condition only the 1926-S is rarer, though the 1925-S is close in rarity to the 1920-S. I'd caall the 1920-S the second rarest buffalo nickel in Gem condition after the 1926-S. Strike is a big problem with this issue and most examples have very weakly struck detail of the Buffalo's horn and tail and the Indian's hair braid. Luster, on the rare mint state example, is somewhat frosty.

    1920-S buffalo nickel

I purchased the 1920-S buffalo nickel as a tribute to my great grandmother who was born in 1920, she raised me and was a coin and stamp collector her self. Her collection was stolen from her and I want to do my best in collecting what she had. I'm just starting my self and I highly recommend jay47! Thank you!!

  • My Honest Review For The San Francisco-Minted Buffalo Nickel Of 1920

The 1920-S Buffalo Nickel is a semi-key date that is pricey to obtain in Fine or better grades. With a mintage of over 9.6 million these are needed in a collection and as long as you purchase one at the right price, this nickel is a keeper! Higher graded specimens are extremely rare in this date and series.

  • Coin collecting

This coin is exceptional for the grade. While trying to build a complete set in MS63 and above it can become very expensive with some of the rarer dates. This coin is toward the high end of the grade and it fits well in my set and within my budget.
