Synopsis
Drawing on the success of their own church campaign, two pastors help readers learn to value, respect, and care for the people who live in their neighborhoods., What if Jesus meant that we should love our actual neighbors? When Jesus was asked to sum up everything into one command, he said to love God with everything we have and to love our neighbors as ourselves. Most of us have turned this simple idea of loving our neighbors into a nice saying, putting it on bumper stickers and refrigerator magnets and then going on with our lives without actually putting it into practice. What would happen if every follower of Jesus took the Great Commandment literally? Is it possible that the solution to our society's biggest issues has been right under our noses for the past two thousand years? In The Art of Neighboring , Jay Pathak and Dave Runyon show you how to create genuine friendships with the people who live in closest proximity to you overcome the barriers that keep you from getting to know your neighbors make small steps and give from what you have to make a difference commit to good neighboring as a lifestyleIncludes a study guide with questions on each chapter, making this book perfect for small groups or individual study., Once upon a time, people knew their neighbors. They talked to them, had cook-outs with them, and went to church with them. In our time of unprecedented mobility and increasing isolationism, it's hard to make lasting connections with those who live right outside our front door. We have hundreds of "friends" through online social networking, but we often don't even know the full name of the person who lives right next door. This unique and inspiring book asks the question: What is the most loving thing I can do for the people who live on my street or in my apartment building? Through compelling true stories of lives impacted, the authors show readers how to create genuine friendships with the people who live in closest proximity to them. Discussion questions at the end of each chapter make this book perfect for small groups or individual study.

Shipping cost and fast delivery was great! The item was well packaged. The cost of the item was of a fair market value. Unfortunately I have giving this seller a Neutral rating knowing the item is from 1988, however the item described within the photo is not the same item received. The item on the sellers listing had shrink wrap, and the conditions of the cover look way better “reason I purchased the item”, than the conditions of the one received. Please see photos! Payment to seller was fast!

  • Love your neighbor as yourself

This book is GREAT! I am giving a report on it soon. Lots of neat ideas to help your neighborhood become a closer unit and feel apart of all your surrounding neighbors. Block parties, help where you see the need, and even volunteer for some projects badly needed in the area. You can also borrow from each other and save, Learn your neighbors problems and share yours, helpful to growing a friendship. Not necessarily a religious book but definitely began from a group of pastors in Denver looking for answers to city concerns. They realized that all these could not be addressed by city programs and encouraged their congregations to become more neighborly .A neat READ!!!

  • Neighboring:: An art to be sure

An easy read with examples of how to form relationships in a new environment. For people who move often, it's a great "how to" enter established neighborhoods and make friends. I recommend this book.
