Synopsis
"Who is John Galt?" is the immortal question posed at the beginning of Ayn Rand's masterpiece. The answer is the astonishing story of a man who said he would stop the motor of the world'and did. As passionate as it is profound, "Atlas Shrugged" is one of the most influential novels of our time. In it, Rand dramatizes the main tenets of Objectivism, her philosophy of rational selfishness. She explores the ramifications of her radical thinking in a world that penalizes human intelligence and integrity. Part mystery, part thriller, part philosophical inquiry, part volatile love affair, "Atlas Shrugged" is the book that confirmed Ayn Rand as one of the most popular novelist and most respected thinkers of the 20th century., Ayn Rand's epochal novel, first published in1957, has been a bestseller for more than fourdecades as well as an intellectual landmark. Itis the story of a man who said that he wouldstop the motor of the world--and did. Was he adestroyer or the greatest of liberators? Why didhe have to fight his battle, not against hisenemies but against those who needed himmost--and his hardest battle against thewoman he loved? What is the world'smotor--and the motive power of every man?Tremendous in its scope, this novel presents anastounding panorama of human life--from theproductive genius who becomes a worthlessplayboy...to the great steel industrialist whodoes not know that he is working for his owndestruction...to the philosopher who becomes apirate...to the woman who runs atranscontinental railroad...to the lowest trackworker in her Terminal tunnels.Peopled by larger-than-life heroes and villains, charged with towering questions of good andevil, Atlas Shrugged is Ayn Rand'smasterpiece. It is a philosophical revolutiontold in the form of an action thriller.

Every American should read this book

Although this book was written many years ago the delusion of socialism affecting the world today is exposed for how laughably ridiculous the policies are and the abuse of government and the tyranny of empowered bureaucrats that’s still exist today. Be ever vigilant, we must fight the unproductive freeloaders in our policies.… I love this book

  • It should be a must read for everyone one who has never read it...... !!

The product being a book it was stated that it was in very good condition and it was !!!!! I already started reading the paperback and the type was quite small.....the book is easy to read now !! As far as subject matter of the book itself I greatly am enjoying it though it is somewhat troubling as our own country is sure headed sideways ............

  • Timeless

Pubbed in 1957, probably took her a decade to write. Tells the story, fictitious, (*cough cough*) of an American society slowly falling apart, mostly through government incompetence and malfeasance, after which said government sets out to "fix" these problems, through more incompetence and malfeasance. No matter when anyone has ever read in the last two-thirds of a century, they almost always are amazed that this wasn't written in the current time. It's quite a commitment; comfortably over 1,000 pages. Worth it.

  • Written many decades ago, this book applies to today's events

I read this book many years ago and loved it. I lost the book so decided to buy it again. It is an excellent book that centers on the character, morals and foundational beliefs of our founding fathers' vision.

  • Once Cautionary now Prophetic

AN apocryphal tale mean to be cautionary has become too true in today's American society. It now predicts the near future for America.
