    I wanted backup versions of this cable card, in case the original three I received from Xfinity malfunctioned at some point. Xfinity no longer issues or actively supports these things, but I have three TIVO DVR's that use them and I need to keep them running. I have lifetime subscriptions on all three machines, and I'd prefer not to have to start paying a monthly rental fee for Xfinity's equipment. So, backup cable cards seemed a smart way to go.
