Good value, but could be worthless if it's the wrong board -- no manufacturer help on IDing the correct replacement..
Unfortunately, and especially for end users, there are too many versions of this control board to be assured you are purchasing the right one. There's VERY little information on the web, and even Rheem Manufacturing doesn't know which defrost board is the right one. Of course, defrost boards are not a new thing and they should last longer than a year. It's fine to update or improve them, but there has to be a clear upgrade and transition path, The QR code on the board itself doesn't resolve to more than a parts database, but there are NO results returned when scanning for the defrost board. So far the board is working in summer weather, but we will see what happens when it functions as a defrost board and controls that function. As to quality, all of this defrost board's electronics ... Unfortunately, and especially for end users, there are too many versions of this control board to be assured you are purchasing the right one. There's VERY little information on the web, and even Rheem Manufacturing doesn't know which defrost board is the right one. Of course, defrost boards are not a new thing and they should last longer than a year. As to quality, all of this defrost board's electronics are exposed to ambient weather and insects -- so it's no wonder that the board failed in a year. Most heat pumps have fully enclosed control boards with sealed connectors for wiring and diagnostic LEDs. No so here. The good news is that the boards are relatively inexpensive and simple enough to install (just be sure to take a picture of the wiring and kill the power to both the indoor and outdoor units as the board is at line (240) voltage before doing anything). Also, some versions of the board include sensors; but it's not clear if they must be changed when the board is changed. The manufacturer was of no help. Having to guess which board is the right one without dealer or manufacture knowing so is absurd.
