"A brave and elegant figure...an honest woman...No one who reads her [memoirs] will doubt the self-questioning and the rigorous honesty of her mind. Perhaps, as in Voltaire's short story 'L'IngÉnu,' it is that too much honesty is sometimes unpalatable, even if it is couched in civil terms...She has an open mind that has released itself from the old straitjacketed frame of reference of Right and Left, she is instinctively, deeply antiauthoritarian and she is unlikely to stick to straight ideological lines. She will go on asking difficult questions." -- Isabella Thomas, The Observer, "A brave and elegant figure...an honest woman...No one who reads her [memoirs] will doubt the self-questioning and the rigorous honesty of her mind. Infidel

Excellent insight into a Muslim born woman's life story. So many facts and details exposing what actual life is like for a female to grow up in the Islamic faith. Shocking!!! Very well written book, easy to read- extremely informative.

  • "Infidel"is an important chapter in the fight for human rights.

Ayaan Hirsi Ali's story is compelling, I can't put it down. She went through the Somali civil war, stood up for the right of women to make their own life decisions ,and was branded an infidel. She now lives in the West and is a bright light for human rights. I recommend her book highly.

  • one perspective

As an uneducated person, I found it easy to read and full of interesting perspective which has given me a much keener understanding of this important topic. The media available to me through the television and radio falls utterly short to express the details that everyone should have to make good decisions about conflicting cultural ideals. This book made me feel connected in a way that was very gratifying and I recommend it to anyone. Ayaan is a courageous person and I'm grateful to have learned her story.

  • Infidel by Ayaan Hirsi Ali (2008)

An inside look at Islam, by a former Muslim. One of the most life-impacting books I have ever read. She goes into detail about her everyday life, growing up in a culture that is quite different from the 'average' American's, and intimately looking into the true nature of her family's religion. An escape from bondage to freedom, and the personal growth in a free country, make this hard to put down. A must-read for any one who truly wants to know the nitty-gritty details of how Islam affects people's lives on a day by day basis. Anyone who loves freedom and personal liberty needs to read this, and then do what they can to insure they and their country's freedoms remain intact. An amazing story.
