About this product

Product Information

Enter the world of Faxanadu, home to the adventurer with no name. Where many NES games fall into neat categories, “Faxanadu” straddles the line between roleplaying and platform games. Your adventurer begins the game returning to Eolis, his Elven home, only to find it under attack by Dwarves. As the hero, you have to adventure through a series of overworld levels to defeat the Evil One. While much of the gameplay follows standard platform tropes, it also includes many elements of roleplaying games including interactive NPCs. Rather than a save function which the NES does not support, it relies on a series of passwords you have to write down, so you can keep your progress from session to session.

    Nastolgia = priceless

    I absolutely live this game! It was one of my first RPG genre game. I was about 5 years old the first time I played it and I loved it so much that I have very clear memories of the game despite that I was so young at the time. It is a must have for video game collectors or anyone who just loves RPG and adventure games! I was lucky enough to find my copy complete in box. The manual is pretty detailed as far as nintendo game manuals go. It has color pictures and goes in to more gameplay detail than you would expect.

  • Vintage Side-Scrolling RPG

    Released in 1989, Faxanadu was one of the first RPG games for the NES, to offer a wealth of gameplay depth. Being able to choose your own path, and explore at your own pace was ahead of its time and new to the gaming world. Many people did not grasp the game with enthusiasm because it actually took time to beat and had to think about where to go and how to get there. Most people wanted to finish a level and come back later to finish it, but Faxanadu wasn't in that category. Yes you could save your progress through a Mantra (Password) and come back but you could save at any town and not just after you completed an objective. With over 15 hours of game time to complete, it was also one of the longest games of its time, adding to the dollar value that you paid for it, as well as an ...

  • Good role playing game with good graphics.

    Graphics are good kinda like adventure of link. The story line seems kinda strange but oh well. Like link you visit towns and talk to folks who give you clues as to what you actually need to do. Without a little guidance it would be hard to know where to go and what to do. Biggest problem is as you progress through the game you can't go back to visit towns you have already visited. All in all a good game that's well worth the average price it sells for.

  • Great RPG for the NES

    Faxanadu is one of those hidden gems for the NES, and one of the best RPG-type games available for the console. It's a lot of fun to play with a good balance of challenge and progression. The graphics and music are quite good for its time, with each area having its own unique feel and mood, creating an immersive experience. Your equipment actually shows up on your character, which is a nice touch. The controls are good, with good hit detection for attacks and the fights are satisfying. It uses a password system to save your progress which works well, just snap a photo of the screen with your phone. I never knew about this game until recently and it quickly became one of my favorites! Highly recommended.

    i was first introduced to this game when i was five years old. we rented it from a local grocery store, back in the good ol' days of the stop n shop media center. i played and played, but it was only when i found it again in k-mart and bought it that i realized i'd hardly scratched the surface. firstly, ill get to the story. you're some random traveler, coming back to your home town to find it nearly deserted. the great fountain has dried up and the world tree is dying. your king has sent many men out to save the day but it seems they weren't elf enough. so he calls upon you, some random tired-as-hell homecomer to thwart the dwarves and water the tree. the king gives you 1500 gold to get some supplies, but who are you trying to fool? you're gonna hit that bar. so off you go! i may be ...
