    Great swords and sandals epic!!

Discs are a bit dated(data compression to get the movie on one disc didn't exist yet when they were made) but fine quality picture

  • An excellent epic which is riveting and exciting

THIS MOVE IS PROBABLY UNKNOWN TO MOST VIEWERS TODAY. THE REASON IS THAT IT WAS PRODUCED IN 1951. IT IS AN EPIC OF TIMES DURING THE REIGN OF NERO. IT HAS EXCELLENT CASTING AND ACTING, PARTICULARLY PETER USTINOV IN THE ROLE OF NERO. NERO IS PLAYED IN THE WAY THAT I WOULD PICTURE HIM. HISTORY PICTURES HIM AS A MASS MURDERER AND A GREAT VILLAIN. THIS IS A MAJOR PRODUCTION USING 30,000 COSTUMES AND MANY ELABORATE SCENES. IT IS IN COLOR AND COLOR IS USED TO THE FULLEST. IT HAS BEEN SAID THAT THIS MOVIE KEPT MGM FROM GOING UNDER. WATCH IT AND LET ME KNOW IF YOU AGREE.

  • Quo Vadis

I bought this movie because I have great memories of the first time I saw it, and Robert Taylor and Deborah Kerr were two of my favorite actors. I was not disappointed in any way. This movie was as wonderful this time as it was the first time I saw it. I saw it when I was six years old the first time, on a huge movie screen. I did understand a lot more of the story this time than I did when I was six. The quality of the film was retained and the story was as beautiful as it ever was. I am so pleased that these older, but still as wonderful movies are being redone for better picture and sound quality and being re released for future generations...and for those of us who saw them in original release. I am very pleased all the way around on this movie. It was wonderful, I watched it ...

  • Epic makes good on promise.

I purchased this movie on DVD as I truly enjoyed the movie in the theater. The two disc movie transfered very well. It has all the vibrant color that I remember when I saw it in 1952. Deborah Kerr as the Christian slave girl is convincing as in almost anything she has ever done. The real surprise is Peter Ustinov as the emperor, Nero. He is convincing as the imperial madman. Robert Taylor is not quite as convincing as the Legion Commander. Since this movie was released in 1951, it predates other epics such as The Ten Commandments, Greatest Show on Earth and Cleopatra. However, it's ability to convey it's purpose, outshines them all.

  • REFRESHING AND ENJOYABLE.

THIS WAS CERTAINLY ENTERTAINING AND GREAT. THE GREAT PART WAS OF THE ACTORS AND THE BEST PART ... NO FOUL OR PROFANED LANGUAGE AND NO ILLICIT SEXUAL SCENES. WHICH IS A PROVEN FACT, THE MOVIE INDUSTRY CAN PRODUCE #1 CLASS MOVIES WITHOUT ANY FOUL, PROFANE LANGUAGE, AND SEXUAL ACTS. TOO BAD, TAKES AWAY FROM THESE ARTISTS THAT ARE NOW CALLED ACTORS AND ACTRESSES. NO TALENT BECAUSE THEY ALL USE PROFANE AND FOUL LANGUAGE AND PERFORM ILLICIT SEXUAL ACTS THAT SHOULD BE PRIVATE. OF COURSE AS MANY OF YOU CAN TELL, THOSE OF US BORN IN THE 40'S APPRECIATE AND LOVE THESE TYPES AND KIND OF MOVIES.
