Every sci-fi or anime fan should have this series
Look up the word `cool' in any dictionary and it says "see Cowboy Bebop"...well, not really...but it should, because Cowboy Bebop is the quintessence of coolness. If you don't already know, Bebop is a stylish 26-session masterpiece chronicling the thrilling triumphs and tribulations of those space-sailing, chain-smoking, bounty-hunting buddies, Jet Black and Spike Spiegel. The wiry gunfighter and martial arts master, Spike, has fuzzy green hair, mismatched eyes and a checkered past. Jet is a bald and burly bonsai tree collector with an artificial left arm and a comma-shaped piece of metal under his scarred right eye. A former ISSP officer--known on his home satellite, Ganymede, as the tenacious "Black Dog"--Jet is now the owner/pilot/mechanic of the spaceship Bebop. These two intrepid ... In Session 2, Spike and Jet rescue a Welsh Corgi "data-dog" named Ein from the notorious pet thief, Abdul Hakim. In Session 3, they meet up with an unscrupulous Blackjack dealer who turns out to be the infamous yellow-clad femme fatale, Faye Valentine. And in Session 9, they meet an androgynous red-headed net-diver with an occasionally invisible nose who calls herself Edward Wong Hau Pepelu Tivrusky, IV. Only by working together can this motley little crew of hungry hunters overcome the ruthless gangsters, senile chess players, broken showers, biting mutants and bad mushrooms that stand in their way as they attempt to nab the endless lineup of bad guys profiled daily on Punch and Judy's Big Shot television show. Cowboy Bebop showcases phenomenal jazz music and exquisitely detailed animation that perfectly captures the mean streets and spaceways of a future world that's simultaneously strange and familiar, with technology that's grungy and realistic (like the hardware of the original Star Wars trilogy) and a uniquely multi-cultural cornucopia of characters. Unlike most animes, Bebop is primarily episodic, so the shows can be enjoyed individually, without requiring the viewer to watch the entire series in one sitting. My personal favorite is the suspense-filled horror spoof, "Toys In the Attic," which opens with red-tinged video footage of a dingy tunnel, reminiscent of the long-forgotten Sega CD game, Sewer Shark. The "Remix" of Cowboy Bebop allows you to hear the unforgettably exhilarating opening theme, Tank! (as well as the rest of the exquisitely-scored soundtrack), in speaker-rattling Dolby Digital 5.1 audio. This affordably-priced Anime Legends set collects the entire Bebop series (not the movie) on six colorfully silk-screened DVDs. A plethora of special features are included, among them: three English-language trailers for Cowboy Bebop on DVD; four Cartoon Network promos from Adult Swim; interviews with Wendee Lee, the voice of Faye Valentine and Cartoon Network producer, Sean Akins; subtitled commentary on Session 1 with the Japanese voices of Spike and Jet, Koichi Yamadera and Unshou Ishizuka; commentary on Session 5 and 10 with Wendee Lee and ADR producer, Yutaka Maseba; a laughter-filled commentary on Session 17 with director, Shinichiro Watanabe, and legendary composer, Yoko Kanno; Session 24 commentary with the Japanese Faye, Megumi Hayashibara, and the Japanese Ed, Aoi Tada; a behind-the-scenes look at the making of Cowboy Bebop, called Session 0; plus a music video featuring the full-length version of Tank! Of course no one could make Bebop any better except by making MORE Bebop, unless it was simply to take the Bebop we got and give it better sound than the original recording could do. And this is just what the Remix does: turns squashed dvd two channel track into Dolby 5.1 surround - much more in keeping with what Yoko Kanno's Master would have sounded like should we have been there to hear it recorded live. For those of us who aren't so lucky, Miss Kanno still never sounded so good. If your skin (and mind) reacted to her incredible soundtrack on the dvd you'll be bowing your gozimatsu's (excuse my spelling) like the Energizer Bunny when you plug this one in to a home theatre set. I bought the Remix one volume collection just to have a back up of my precious Bebop plates full stop, but ... I bought the Remix one volume collection just to have a back up of my precious Bebop plates full stop, but what a thrill ride I got as an added bonus when I gave them a test ride to check for defects and relived the soundtrack in it's upgraded version. Beauty. Even the spoken dialogue is better, and you who know the series well are aware that some of the characters, Vicious, especially, likes to whisper almost his already low, slightly growled lines. In 5.1 they come in clean and clear through a separate channel, so Real Folk like myself with hearing defect Blues (pun intended - my bad) appreciate the clarity. Of course it means bombs and bullits are also sharper, too, so I'm kinda glad in my set up they hit on a different channel (and speaker) than the one I tend to cuddle closest to deliberately to catch speach. When I want to hear the songs like - geeze my minds' blank - I think it's 'In the Rain', anyway the music to the two episodes "Ballad of Fallen Angels" where Spike and Vicious duke it out Gun&Sword style as they prefer - I get into the sweet spot configuration to get all the nuiances of every chord and instrument and voice. Remix is worth getting in Single volume just because it's Cowboy Bebop and if it keeps selling enough they may be convinved to bring it back to life for it's 10th anniversary (Stateside) with a totally new series (NO, SPIKE IS NOT DEAD and I can PROVE IT WITH SCENES FROM THE ACTUAL ANIME - and even if he were - who cares they can do a pre-quel like the movie), or a new movie. BUT, the music in 5.1 Dolby makes it all the better. A BluRay of the Movie will be coming out, too; so that will be worth for picture quality, you can't beat Miss Yoko Kanno at her best and the Original Series is where she shines in the Bebop universe. No wonder it has been voted the best anime in history by people in the industry. Ten years after it was made. Cool is always cool. You can never get enough of the Bebop. BUY IT. TREASURE IT. See ya space cowboys/girls...

Simply a must have anime series!
This is one of the best anime series I've ever watched. It has a great soundtrack, second only to that of Samurai Champloo. The english dubs are probably the best I've heard, and it also has subs for those of you who prefer them. It is only 26 episodes, so it is short but sweet which, in my opinion, makes for a better anime series. Two things I disliked: this set does not have artwork that was included in previous sets, and kind of a lack of cool bonus features. For the price that you can get these sets at I guess leaving the artwork out and fancy packaging makes sense. Don't get me wrong on the bonus features either. It has the basics: voice commentaries, tv spots/trailers, and american voice actor interviews. I was just hoping for more, but it is a Japanese anime so you can't expect to ... This is one of the best anime Series I have ever seen. The characters, the environment and the quality of it make's it a true classic. Fly trough the stars with Spike, Jet, Ed, Ein and Fei as they strugle to catch some bad guys and earn some cash. Characters * Spike Spiegel (スパイク・スピーゲル, Supaiku Supīgeru?) Nació en Marte. Spike es un ex-miembro del sindicato criminal Dragón Rojo que es perseguido por un antiguo triángulo amoroso entre su anterior compañero del sindicato, Vicious, y una misteriosa mujer llamada Julia. A pesar de su apariencia descreída e irónica es un experto en Jeet Kune Do. * Jet Black (ジェット・ブラック, Jetto Burakku?) Su tierra natal es Ganímedes. Great buy for any Bebop fan.
After the Cowboy Bebop Remix DVD box set arrived about 3 or 4 days ago, I immediately started watching it. First I only finished 2 episodes, but then last night I finished up the other 24 episodes in one sitting. The extras on 6-disc set are limited, but the actual show itself is good enough for that not to matter one bit. And, although I don't have a 5.1 setup, the box set supports remastered audio up to 5.1 which is supposed to be the purpose of the box set in the first place. So, all in all: If you have a 5.1 setup and the older box set (that doesn't support 5.1), I'd say that it's up to you whether or not the improved audio is worth the extra money. However, if you don't have the original box set and you're a Bebop fan whether you've seen the entire series or not: definitely get this ...
