About this product

Product Information

An all-star cast graces this enjoyable comedy set in the Welsh countryside, where Boris Plotz (Alfred Molina, THE DA VINCI CODE) has abandoned his childhood dreams of becoming a dancer and marrying Betty (Brenda Blethyn, BEYOND THE SEA, PRIDE & PREJUDICE). Instead, he has become an undertaker, which causes his path to cross Betty's once again when she must bury her mother-in-law. Their romance reignites, and the pair decides to stage Betty's death to run away together. Meanwhile, Plotz's competition in the funeral business, Frank Featherbed (Christopher Walken, DOMINO, SUICIDE KINGS) gears up his new plan to revolutionize the industry: themed funerals. Naomi Watts (21 GRAMS, GODZILLA) and Jerry Springer co-star.

    Best comedy ever filmed!!

This is one if not the BEST comedy ever filmed, (IMHO) with "Unconditional Love" with Kathy Bates following with belly laughs from beginning to end! Having my own copy, I purchased this one for a friend for Christmas who thought it was hilarious! after borrowing my copy! Oh btw, for those truly loving good comedy, also take a look at "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" with the great Michael Caine and Steve Martin!!! Enjoy!!

  • A hidden gem

I loved "Undertaking Betty" so much I bought it twice to have a copy to share with people I like. It helps that I have friends in the mortuary business maybe, but the movie is wildly accessible to anyone with a sense of humor. It stars people you've seen in other movies in supporting roles, Christopher Walken giving his standard excellent wierd funny character support in what is really more of an ensemble work, that happens to have a romantic comedy plotline. This is classic British comedy at its best - imagine those classic Alec Guiness comedies of the 50's and early 60's. It's lost in the multiplex theatres - not enough explosions or CGI. But it plays brilliantly on the small screen at home when you're in the mood to roll on floor laughing out loud with a loved one or two. This is sweet ...

  • Undertaking Betty (DVD, 2006)

Boris Plots, director of Plots Funeral Homes in the fictional Welsh village of Wrottin Powys, dreamed of only two things as a young boy: dancing and Betty. Betty secretly loved Boris, but could not fight her father's wishes, so she was married off to a gold digger. Boris gave up his dreams and took over the family's undertaking business. Everything has remained status quo in their lives until Betty's mother-in-law dies. Boris and Betty are thrust together again and as they discuss the funeral arrangements for Betty's mother-in-law, the old spark is rekindled. Her funeral will be held at Plots Funeral Homes, much to the chagrin of rival funeral director, Frank Featherbed. Featherbed, an American, is determined to revolutionise the undertaking business in Britain through the innovation of ...

  • A joy to watch.

This is priceless. I've always appreciated dark indie films (Donnie Darko, Cemetary Man, etc) and then my brother turned me on to this dark romantic comedy. Had to have a copy for my DVD collection. The role of "Betty" could have been written for Branda Blethyn and Alfred Molina is wonderful. It's great to see Lee Evans and Chris Walken team up again (Mouse Hunt). The real surprise was the Secretary. I never knew that was Naomi Watts and she did a great job.

  • Fred & Ginger In Wales

Betty (Brenda Blethyn) doesn't yet know that her husband (Robert Pugh) is a philanderer with a bimbo girlfriend (Naomi Watts) when Boris (Alfred Molina), a Welsh mortician who abandoned a career as a dancer, decides he can no longer live without Betty, his true love since they were children. Boris and Betty work out an exquisite plan to stage her death so they can secret away together to a tropical island to be with each other forever. But is the new American glitz and glamour mortician (Christopher Walken) going to throw a monkey wrench in their plan? This is a tender little film in so many ways but with huge laughs and grins. Walken is so unWalken-like and a real hoot! Just a delight to watch this one, folks. .
