Yamaha got it right.
I just picked up one of these and after playing it for an hour, I think Yamaha has a winner here. Lightweight, good ergonomics, good control layout, and the neck is just a joy to play. The neck has a solid and substantial feel to it, but it's slim front to back. The width at the nut is 1 5/8". It's very fast and the fretboard just feels great. I really like the inlays too. Overall fit and finish on this bass is excellent. The string-through ferules look great, being at a diagonal through the body. The tuners are silky smooth, and lightweight. No neck dive on this. Pickups sound great, though it took some fiddling to get an even response across the strings. The 3 band EQ is great, and having an active/passive switch opens up even more tonalities. The bass exudes a high end vibe ... I just picked up one of these and after playing it for an hour, I think Yamaha has a winner here.
