About this product

Product Information

This Hollywood adaptation of the classic Broadway musical sparkles with glamour and reverberates with the energy of good, old-fashioned song and dance. As the film leaps into its first riveting act, Velma Kelly (Catherine Zeta-Jones), one half of the famous number she performs with her sister, arrives at the night club late, disheveled, and with blood on her hands. Nonetheless, she goes onstage unhindered and wows the crowd with her shimmying rendition of "All That Jazz." Roxie Hart (Renee Zellweger) a young blond who dreams of someday being famous like Velma, watches from the audience with eyes full of envy. Later, as the cops pick up Velma for the murder of her sister, sending her fame to all-time heights as she becomes a tabloid sensation, Roxie also commits a crime of passion--shooting a lover who falsely promised to secure her cabaret debut. The girls wind up together in jail, where Mama Morton (Queen Latifah), a compassionate guard, is their only hope of redemption; and Billy Flynn (Richard Gere) is the lawyer who can get them out. There, through wonderfully familiar songs like "Razzle Dazzle," "Cell-Block Tango," and "Cellophane Man" Roxie and Velma tell their story of competing for bad-girl celebrity.Director Rob Marshall presents a loveable CHICAGO that shares all the grit and grime of the Bob Fosse Broadway original with phenomenal performances by this grouping of Hollywood stars. The dizzying camerawork and dazzling sets make an easy transition from stage to film.

Wish it would've shipped in a bubble envelope instead of a paper one, but it arrived as described at a very low price, so I can't really complain. A+ Seller. Cheers!

    My Favorite Is.In It!

One of the earliest of James Stacy's appearances. He's a seabee who sings at the beginning. It has great songs and good actors. Great story.

  • Put some fun and music into your day watching this movie.

I would rate this movie 4 1/2 stars. For the most part the film moves right along keeping the audience wanting more - except for the boring lull that is Queen Latifah in the prison scene. The performances by the principal actors are very good. Didn't care much for Mama Thornton (Latifah) though and it was her blah role in the film that earned the - 1/2 star. Gere's musical numbers are fun to watch and the tunes catchy. Zellweger fits her part perfectly and belts out the tunes despite the fact she's NOT a singer nor a professional dancer. John C Reilly (you'll recognize him) plays the hapless husband and does fine with his song & dance number. But Zeta-Jones is the highlight of the movie and she sizzles. Sure, the plot is a little thin and the movie wasn't 'big-budget' but the dancing ...

  • Chicago - Broadyway Meets Hollywood in Chicago

Broadway Meets Academy Awards and the Golden Screen with Chicago. Many mainstream reviews started – or at least included – the word DAZZLING. That word makes sense… the combination of fine acting, excellent and experienced plot, fantastic singing and dancing makes for a ‘dazzling performance.’ Chicago was the IT movie and DVD of 2002 and certainly will have staying-power and should be a staple of any standard DVD collection. From the Chicago DVD box: Winner of six Academy Awards including Best Picture and starring Academy Award nominee (Best Actress, Chicago) and Golden Globe winner (Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy) and Golden Globe winner (Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy, Chicago), Renee Zellweger (Bridget Jones’s Diary), Academy Award winner (Best Supporting Actress, Chicago) ...

  • good use of songs

I bought this movie for my mom and sister. They love this movie. I like the use of the songs to show the characters' thoughts, concerns, emotions, and reasoning. There is minimal swearing, which gets in the way sometimes,(being a teacher,I believe that swearing makes you sound incompetent and unimaginative)but otherwise it helps portray the mentality of the characters. The nicer the character, the less they swear. The song and dance numbers were sensational. I especially like Catherine Zeta Jones as an actress, and willingly would watch any movie with her in it. I call her the female version of Sean Connery. Mainly, the plot surrounds a young lady that gets dumped by her man on the side, and shoots him. Then she tries to use her trial as a ploy to get into the spotlight. She is very ...

  • All That Jazz!

I decided to purchase this DVD a long time ago, after seeing the original stage show in London, just that it took me a while to do it! It is a moralistic story about corruption, murder and prohibtion in 1920's Chicago. It centers around three main characters, which are played by brilliant and accomplished actors. There is plenty of other interest too and the music, if you like jazz, is superb, the costumes are also excellent and true to the period. The DVD is very true to the stageshow, but there is slightly more depth on the DVD, which I suppose would be too difficult to reproduce on stage. I am very glad thatI bought this DVD and it is something that I could watch several times. Buy it you will love it too!
