About this product

Product Information

Julien Temple's second documentary profiling punk rock pioneers the Sex Pistols is an enlightening, entertaining trip back to a time when the punk movement was just discovering itself. Featuring archival footage, never-before-seen performances, rehearsals, and recording sessions as well as interviews with group members who lived to tell the tale--including the one and only John Lydon (aka Johnny Rotten)-- THE FILTH AND THE FURY is a relevant viewing experience for those unfamiliar with the band; for fans, it's mandatory viewing.

  • Very Good Pistols Documentary

This is generally a good documentary that any pistols fan will enjoy. Lots of interviews and some good unreleased pistols live footage. There is a great unreleased interview with Sid from shortly after the breakup. My only complaints are much of the live footage is overdubbed with studio tracks (why do they do that?) and there isn't enough live footage, just clips. Julien Temple is sitting on miles (literally) of film footage of these guys, why not give us something? The film will turn to dust eventually and nobody will ever get to see it. There are some great clips of the famous Huddersfield xmas gig, overdubbed of course. Why not show us the whole thing or at least a complete song or two? Nobody expects the audio to be perfect so let us hear it. For crying out loud, somebody should ...

  • Rock and Roll re-energised - An Anti-Celebration

You may well have to be British to get where the Sex Pistols were coming from. After all, their principal was to rebel against something, ie: rock and roll, that was already rebellious. But what pissed off the Pistols was not only the grim state of their country, but that the great escapism from it - guitar rock - had become seemingly a big-business, untouchable, bloated industry. And as Julien Temple's film shows us, their great achievement was to urbanise rock, strip it back to its basics, and fire it with a power and inspiration that still resonates today. Sadly, the group was torn to pieces in a very ugly way, due to mismanagement and notoriety. But this film seeks to zero in on what really mattered - the fantastic, undying impression they made. A new life for Rock and Roll. Hopefully ...
