  • purchased mine as a refurbished unit @ $20........VERY HAPPY

purchased this unit off ebay for a friend (a not so savvy with computer type friend)...... Paid $20 with free shipping. It was easy to set up, just plugging in, calling cable company and following their directions, it was up in 15 minutes...and has been trouble free over a month now. It does not have built in Wi-Fi, so you'll need a router for that if so desired, but it does have 4 ports on back to run cables. For $20, it is a great deal, and would be quick to get another if so needed.

  • Motorola DOCSIS SB5100 2.0 Cable Modem

Pros: a modem is a modem they say. This one is small, black in color and looks great compared to my old surf board modem. Love the STAND BY button that lets you disconnect the signal to the computer and or router instantly while the modem stays connected to th Cons: Minor con...No power on / off button and no reset button, if you need to reset your modem you need to unplug it.

  • It DOES Make a Difference!

My old Terayon cablemodem died last week. It worked well, but it was almost 5 years old. I broke out the Toshiba cablemodem I had in my spares box. It worked. Barely. Throughput was so slow, my wife was in a foul mood for a week. I had this Motorola SB5120 Surfboard ordered within 24 hours of putting on the Toshiba, but it was a LOOOOOONG wait for the modem to arrive. When it did, I didn't let it warm up before installing it, and calling the cable company (Suddenlink) to provision it in. Within minutes, high speed cable surfing resumed! The Toshiba was DOCSIS ready, but something in the firmware just wasn't universal. The Motorola was up to the task, and is working perfectly, now. Maybe the future's superlarge optical networks will require an upgrade, but until then, I'm happy with this. ...

  • GOOD! For 18 USD is well worthed, activation is one call away with TWC.

For the price (18 USD), it works really well with Time Warner Cable here in Los Angeles. No complaints here about this modem. The maximum speed of the modem is about 38 Mbps (Mega bits per second, not Mega Byte), which is more than enough for most if not all cable users. Just to clarify this for the reader: Mbps = Mega bits per second. MBps = Mega Bytes per second. Thanks, -Steve.

  • A great, cheap alternative to leasing a modem from your Internet provider!

The reason I got this modem was because my Internet company wanted to charge me $7 a month for a modem lease (equaling $84 a year) and I figured I could just find one for a lot cheaper and actually get to keep it after my contract ended! So I made sure the Motorola modem was compatible with what the Internet company said they use (DOCSIS 2.0-3.0) and got this one for pretty cheap! So far it's worked very well, no problems yet and it's saving me $84 a year :)
