About this product

Product Information

The second game in Sega's 16-bit Shinobi series continues the exploits of master ninja Joe Musashi as he journeys to New York to visit former student Kato. By the time he gets there, however, he finds his good friend dying before his very eyes.

Kato learned that ninja warriors were holding the local children hostage, so he went to rescue them by himself. It would be his last heroic attempt. Now Joe Musashi vows revenge and will not stop until this ninja group (Union Lizard) and its reptilian leader, Sauros, are destroyed.

Yet Musashi is not alone this time. Joining him is Kato's loyal white dog Yamato, who can distract enemies until you dispose of them. As Joe Musashi, you'll be able to jump, punch, kick, slash with a sword, and throw shurikens.

You'll also call on the powers of Ninjitsu to perform one of three magical attacks: columns of flame, swirling tornadoes, and meteorites raining down from the sky. Make your way through five New York scenarios, each consisting of two sub-levels and a boss character: Burning Downtown, Battle on the Railway, Liberty Island, In the Darkness, and Sauros' Defenses. Do not stop until you avenge your friend's death!

Great Shinobi game featuring attack dog

Shadow Dancer is one of those classic games that I remember playing in the arcade but not on a home console. This is one of many good games in the Shinobi series. Featuring a new gameplay element in your ninja attack dog and relying almost entirely on shuriken, this side-scrolling ninja game still plays great and features a difficulty level that hinges mostly on learning the timing of enemy spawns. Highly recommended, but not the best ninja game. I think Stryder, though not a "Shinobi" game, was slightly better.

  • A hidden gem on the SEGA Genesis!

This game is often over shadowed by Shinobi 2 and 3 but in my opinion is just as good for different reasons. It's also often over looked because it's considered to be too easy. I think that behind all that lies a great game with an awesome mechanic of having a dog as your partner. You do feel a bit over powered with the dog at your side, almost as if the game was designed without the dog in mind. But playing as a Ninja with a killer attack dog by your side should feel over powered! This is a game that you can pick up for cheap, and if you liked the other Shinobi games it's definitely worth a try.

  • Great bang for your buck $

Tough shinobi game I've never played. Tons of fun and very challenging. Game was in great shape for the low price.

  • A good game that could of been great.

After my euphoric experience with Revenge of Shinobi, I was itching to play the next Genesis game of the Shinobi franchise. Unfortunately, I didn't have much money being a kid at the time, so I wasn't able to procure a copy for myself. Luckily, a friend of mine got it for Christmas. What started out as a game full of potential, just ended up as a game full of potential. The graphics are some of the best on the Genesis. The enemies look ominous and evil and the backgrounds are detailed and lively. The regular enemies look cool when they die, bursting into a blueish flame. The fire effects on the first level were quite amazing back in '91. The sound effects are also top-notch. From the digitized voice the main character makes at the beginning of a level to the fast-paced, theatric ...

  • Great Genesis game for the collection.

Great retro platformer. The dog is definitely utilized well and is a unique mechanic to the game. The Shinobi series is outstanding and so far this title is up there with revenge of Shinobi but maybe not as polished as Shinobi 3. I love it.
