Reviews
"John Sandford is an amazing, protean writer, and Saturn Run is a terrific story of alien first contact. It's a book Michael Crichton would have enjoyed, but never could have written; he didn't have Sandford's gift of good humor and his uncanny ear for dialogue. With the able partnership of Ctein, it's fast, scientifically believable, and peopled by characters who become good friends. Fans of Lucas Davenport and Virgil Flowers will eat this up."        *  Stephen King  "One of the most gifted thriller writers at work in this country or any other."    *  Richmond Times-Dispatch   "John Sandford writes entertainment that is not to be missed. With the heart of a breakneck thriller and the mind of the best science fiction (Bradbury and Heinlein come to mind), Saturn Run keeps us enthralled from beginning to end. Sandford and Ctein have brilliantly pulled off the difficult task of making a very different world very  familiar, proving that a born storyteller is a storyteller, whether he sets his books on mean streets or in deep space. I, for one, want more. *Jeffery Deaver "One of the most gifted thriller writers at work in this country or any other." *  Richmond Times-Dispatch   "John Sandford writes entertainment that is not to be missed. Synopsis
"Fans of Lucas Davenport and Virgil Flowers will eat this up." --Stephen King For fans of THE MARTIAN, an extraordinary new thriller of the future from #1 New York Times -bestselling and Pulitzer Prize-winning author John Sandford and internationally known photo-artist and science fiction aficionado Ctein. Over the course of thirty-seven books, John Sandford has proven time and again his unmatchable talents for electrifying plots, rich characters, sly wit, and razor-sharp dialogue. Now, in collaboration with Ctein, he proves it all once more, in a stunning new thriller, a story as audacious as it is deeply satisfying. The year is 2066. A Caltech intern inadvertently notices an anomaly from a space telescope--something is approaching Saturn, and decelerating. Space objects don't decelerate. Spaceships do. A flurry of top-level government meetings produces the inescapable conclusion: Whatever built that ship is at least one hundred years ahead in hard and soft technology, and whoever can get their hands on it exclusively and bring it back will have an advantage so large, no other nation can compete. A conclusion the Chinese definitely agree with when they find out. The race is on, and an remarkable adventure begins--an epic tale of courage, treachery, resourcefulness, secrets, surprises, and astonishing human and technological discovery, as the members of a hastily thrown-together crew find their strength and wits tested against adversaries both of this earth and beyond. What happens is nothing like you expect--and everything you could want from one of the world's greatest masters of suspense., "Fans of Lucas Davenport and Virgil Flowers will eat this up." --Stephen King For fans of THE MARTIAN, an extraordinary new thriller of the future from #1 New York Times -bestselling and Pulitzer Prize-winning author John Sandford and internationally known photo-artist and science fiction aficionado Ctein.    Over the course of thirty-seven books, John Sandford has proven time and again his unmatchable talents for electrifying plots, rich characters, sly wit, and razor-sharp dialogue. • No more sci-fi please

I've been a fan of John Sanford(or john case) for a long long time, and converted I don't know how many other guys by giving them copies. BUT, I am not a fan of science fiction, regardless of how well it is written, and this one seems to be well written, but I can't seem to get interested in this Genre. I just hope and pray that Sanford doesn't emulate Patterson and start hiring other people to write books under his name, with or without cover credit. John you're just too damn good a writer to even contemplate such. If I accidently get a Patterson I just toss it. I think the late Tony Hillerman said it best in a note to me. He said I'm a weary 83 so don't count on ever seeing another book by me. On another note, Hillerman's Daughter Anne is writing books of the same Genre as her Father, ...

  • Saturn Run great sci-fi

As promised in synopsis, this is tightly written, well crafted "hard" sci-fi. It's a great read and characters are well developed, with a minimum of what I call soap opera. My only quibble is that it wasn't what I hunger for -- fiction directed at the encounter with an alien mentality, and how humans approach, understand and react. What was frustrating for me is that the book promised so much but then veered off to the side. Encounter was made with an alien interface that so successfully mimicked human mentality, minus emotion, that no concept of alien mind was addressed. The last part was the conflict and competition over alien technology between two human groups, which to me was boring and depressing. As thriller-adventure, it was well done and realistic. Just not what this reader ...

  • Great sci-fi book! Hard to put down!

I saw this in the airport and picked it up because the synopsis intrigued me. I couldn't put it down. An object is spotted slowing down and orbiting Saturn. A race between the US and China is on to get there first. The ending ties everything up nicely. I cant recommend this book enough. Half my family is reading this now and loving it.

  • Very well written and highly compelling.

Read this a few years ago and gave it away but it always stuck in mind and wanted to reread it. I can't believe it was never optioned as a movie as it would make a great one .Compelling story and characters, even the science was believable. I highly recommend it.
