    Outdated but still awesome!

This older translation by Wallace Budge is from the late 1880's. What he lacked in comprehending he simply "made up." While not the most accurate translation, this is a nice version as it includes the hieroglyphs directly above the English translation as well as a rough approximation of what he believed Ancient Egyptian would have sounded like. This book is a useful tool for those wanting to learn how to read hieroglyphs. The translations offer a fascinating glimpse in the myth and folklore of the Ancient Egyptians in regard to their beliefs in the afterlife and the various challenges a soul might encounter there.

  • Fun But Not For The Scholar

This book is without doubt the most popular and most reprinted of all of Budge's (+ 100) books. Though the accuracy is below the level of proper translation by modern scholars, Budge offers the beginner a glimpse at the text of a most famous and remarkable papyrus known as "The papyrus of Ani." In this Dover publication the hieroglyphs are accompanied by running transliteration and translations directly below them. The "Bell" publication, a reprint of the original 1895 book, is without running scripts, though is somewhat faithful to the original book in having some black & white copies of the papyrus in its frontispiece. Though neither copy is 100% accurate in its hieroglyphic account (missing glyphs, incorrect glyphs, not always in correct sequence, etc.) and outdated translations, Budge ...

  • Egyptain book of the Dead by Budge E.A. Wallis 1967

Been looking for a hard copy of this book for ages and one trip to Ebay got it in paper back in less than an hour. Hopefully I'll find a hard copy but for now I'm just glad to have any copy. Its a book that translates the papyrus of Ani (Now resting in the British museum) showing the ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics text along with the words of how it was pronounced at the time, along with the English translation of the said text. First published in 1895 it has been a blessing to all those who love ancient Egypt and the civilization we enjoy today that they jump started for mankind. I will enjoy reading this book and the nice drawing of Anubis on the cover doesn't make it hard to look at. (My personal favorite Egyptian God and my personal mascot for my many cemetery ...
