About this product

Product Information

Painkiller is a first-person shooter set in the sinister world of gothic horror. Daniel Garner is having a bad day. On his way downtown, he dies in a car accident and is not permitted past the pearly gates. In order to get back into the Almighty's good graces, he becomes Painkiller and must mow down Satan's minions in whatever lair, tomb, or residence they may be lurking. Dressed in a black overcoat and wearing sunglasses to protect against the sun, Painkiller has earned a reputation for his no-nonsense approach to demon hunting. Yet he also hides a secret: a pact with a demon has granted him special powers at the expense of his humanity.

Painkiller must fight his way past hordes of undead creatures in 20 levels while freeing whatever is left of their souls. With every 66 souls collected, Painkiller can transform into a ghastly creature himself, using its physical strength and ferocity to engage multiple demons at once. Players will also have at their disposal an arsenal of ranged weapons including a shotgun and the "painkiller," all of which feature primary and secondary attacks. Painkiller uses the Havok physics engine (Thief: Deadly Shadows, Deus Ex: Invisible War) for its interactive 3D environments and details such as moving clothes, rippling water, and crumbling walls. The game features seven multiplayer modes such as "Deathmatch," "Voosh," "Light Bearer," "Last Man Standing," and "Free-For-All."

Fantastic seller. Items (NES Dust sleeves) were shipped immediately with tracking and arrived in the blink of an eye. Packaging and labelling were excellent. The items themselves are in top notch condition, I couldn't be happier with the purchase. Thank you, 'Retro District"! A well deserved A+.

Simple, effective FPS - Great if you know what you're getting

I'm not sure "depth" is a word that comes to mind when one thinks of the Painkiller games, but there's certainly a lot more to this hellacious shooter than first meets the eye. The story is generic, but it's really just there to get you to the one and only goal: kill a lot of stuff. Compared to the seminal OG Xbox shooters (Halo, Doom, Half-Life, etc.) Painkiller seems lacking at first, but I found myself cackling at the absurdity of the weapons, setting, and enemies more often than not. It's a straightforward shooter for straightforward players, so if you want a more thought provoking and introspective experience, look elsewhere. But if you're good to go with a game that unabashedly worships at the alter of "run and gun", you could do a lot worse than Painkiller.

  • Poorly made, but mindless fun!

Painkiller is a very simple game. You start at Point A and with the several very creative guns you're given you must kill all the demons that stand in your way to get to Point B. That's all you have to do. Kill everything. Don't worry about protecting the President's daughter, collecting three different keycards, or finding the lost treasure of Shambala. Just kill stuff. You get a lot of fun weapons in order to kill stuff like a gun that shoots large wooden stakes that can pin enemies to the wall or a gun that shoots shurikens and lightning. The issue is that the game isn't exactly fresh. It's stale, quite honestly. The graphics are crummy, programming seems off, and the story will make you fall asleep. But if you just want mindless first-person-shooter fun ...

  • PainKiller: Hell Wars

Painkiller falls in the same catagory as say Doom,Half Life and a touch of Resident Evil as you have to survive. I read some reviews on this game before I got it and have reached one conclution, some people should have thier xbox license revoked for being stupid.Meaning this is a game a great one at that based on FICTION,not reality so to confuse this game with the real world is foolish. The game play and graphics are nice and only for entertainment value and not the real world. Some of us should know the difference.

  • Great Xbox FPS, dont listen to the skeptics!

No matter what you may think or hear about this game being "last Gen" or "not as good as Halo 2", I say who cares! This game is still a very challenging and graphically pleasant experience. I enjoyed this game for the most part, yes there are some levels that just plain sucked(First 3 levels) but it gets much better. The Bosses are just awesome in scale for the most part, not necessarily challenging or anything. If you play this game and really try to get all the Tarots and play it right, you wont be let down! Its a great price, a wonderfully visual game and especially great if you can't afford and Xbox 360.
