A Different Point of View
Inside Actors Studio is a weekly show on A&E. James Lipton does interviews of great stars, in front of an audience of college theatre majors, so that they might learn tricks of the trade. This particular interview is Streisand. Most of these shows are an hour long. Barbra was allotted 2 hours. I would recommend buying it. If you DO NOT like her, feel she's rude, terrible as a director, this might greatly change your mind. You will hear of all the awards she has received. You will hear about her accomplishments. You will hear REASONS for why she does things in certain ways, and by the end, much of the "faults" will start to make sense. You will, hopefully, see her from a differ- ent view. You are going to see her as endearing, vulnerable, careful, wise, gracious and incredibly ... Inside Actors Studio is a weekly show on A&E. She graduated, with honors, at 15. She was in summer stock by the age of 14. Her father died before she had a chance to know him. The only picture she has of them together is Barbra standing by his tombstone. She got her looks from him and her personality. He graduated with a PHD. She did not appear to be close to her mother. She wanted Barbra to be a typist!! When Barbra won her Oscar for "Funny Girl", her mother did not attend the awards. The DVD is well worth the purchase. There are even cuts of her music through- out the interview, and best yet, you see this 2 hour show with NO COMMERCIALS!!
