About this product

Product Information

City of Villains is the stand-alone follow-up to the successful "massively multiplayer" superhero game, City of Heroes. Players take the roles of super-powered scofflaws who, unlike their heroic counterparts, embark on missions of theft, sabotage, and other schemes of world domination. Like heroes, villains come in any combination of five archetypes and five origins. While the villain archetypes may seem similar to those of City of Heroes, they offer a different set of powers that can be best used together in different ways.

Brutes are strong and enduring, like heroic Tankers, but Brutes become more powerful as they take more damage. Stalkers are deadly melee combatants, like Scrappers, but they rely on stealth and surprise instead of speed and strength. Although they offer support in battle, like Controllers, Dominators have access to a power set that is more focused on dealing out damage. Corrupters also support the group, like Defenders, but become more powerful as they wear their enemies down. Masterminds may be the most unprecedented archetype, as their power set offers control over "pets," such as robots, zombies, or ninja minions.

Another major addition to the shared City game world is base-building. Groups of characters can pool their funds to buy a headquarters building, which can be developed with useful technology and defensive armaments. This base is where villains and heroes keep their collected crystals -- valuable items that bestow bonuses on all group members. The danger of owning crystals is that they are so powerful, enemy groups may stage raids on the base to capture them. In addition to base raids, heroes and villains can also battle one another in the games' three cross-over PvP arenas.

City of Heroes offered one of the most powerful, engaging character creation systems of any game available at the time of its release, and the character-building tools in City of Villains are designed to be equally extensive. The interface works similarly to that of City of Heroes, and many of the costume parts are the same in both games, but villains have access to a number of outrageously evil items and accessories that no self-respecting hero would ever dare don.

  • Of Course Being A Villain Is Fun

I am nothing short of hooked on City of Heroes its a very quality game. I have created a few viallains and find this game ok but not overly impressive. The main reason I bought it was for the add on features like superhero bases using my salvage to build stuff etc... As far as buying it to play it is fun but I don't enjoy it as much as I do playing City Of Heroes. If you buy it for the game addition you will enjoy it immensely as the addons take a great game and make it awesome.

  • City of Villains

This is a really fun game if you want to play mmorpg without all the mid-evil stuff... lets face it every mmorpg game out there is stuck in the past! This game is easy to play & understand. Its one of the few online mmorpg games set in modern times, & allows FULL costumization of your character. People complaining about the time it takes to make a character are missing half the fun of the game, you'll find dressing your "toon" one of the highlights of the game. As you progress in the game you gain more costume options Capes Auras extras costume slots (you can currently have 5 differnt looks) Wings (after 15 months of paid/played game time) etc.... lots of new content added every 6 months or so. this is a game worth trying if you are still thinking about do so :) I highly recomend it!

  • The definitive super-powered MMO.

All in all it's a pretty good MMO. The graphics are good and so is the character customization. The holiday events and rate of new content is decent as well. The game does however lack a certain depth and there's not much end-game stuff to do other than farm badges. Perfect for any aspiring super-villain. I would only recommend this for someone that really wants an super-villain/hero game. Note: you can now access both City of Villains and City of Heroes when you buy either game.

  • City of Villains

Ok Every Hero needs a Villain, And with City Of Villains you can be that Villain. This game brings Player Vs Player (PVP) to the City Of Hero. There are three zones soon to be four where your Villain will be able to facer of with Player Heroes. Using the same gaming system for the Award Winning City of Heroes You will be able to create the Villain of your dreams, and the nightmares of heroes using the nearly limitless customization tools. Once your done you'll want to build your villainous organization and whats a villainous group with out a secret stronghold, you will be able to build your Fortress of Evil. Are you Villainous enough to face off with Statesman. Speaking of Stateman, They Haven't forgotten you Heroes. How can you heroes face the awesome might of these new Villains? ...

  • It Unlocks New Costume Options BUT....

I started playing City of Heros 18 months ago after pressure from my husband to try it out. Well, I'm hooked! Because City Of Heros was offering extra character slots and costume options and no additional monthly fee, I decided to purchase 2 copies. I've been trying it out for about 6 months now and I am less than enthuiastic about this game. I actually dread the nights my husband was to be a "villian" because I would much rather be a hero! There really isn't anything wrong with the game per se. But after playing City of Hero's for as long as I have, I just prefer it over City of Villians. But either way, it is definitely beneficial to own a copy of both!
