Higher priced Okapi's are usually better quality.

I bought three Okapi's at $17 and they of good quality. Then decided to buy two at twelve dollars and there was a noticeable difference in craftsmanship. The $12 one's looked and felt like factory seconds which may be discounted so they could be sold off. There was wood filling on the handles where there was cracks or uneven surfaces and the three star moon steel stamps on the handle also had imperfections. Also, the blades had a greasy film on them. Though the boxes and upc stickers appeared identical, the cheaper knives at a $5 difference could either be knock offs, or factory seconds. Do yourself a favor and spend more for a better quality Okapi! They're great knives and very durable, and give you the feeling your holding a piece of history. I use my Okapi as an EDC. It's fantastic. ...

    Iconic Soth African Knife

I bought this because it is inexpensive, large, interesting looking and an iconic South African product. This is not a high quality knife.....but I didn't expect it to be. The steel is decent and the design allows a lack of high quality construction. It took a bit of effort.....but I managed to put a decent edge on this. Seems like it might be good for a hike, picnic or tail gate ....where a decent sized folding knife could be used for cutting and spreading. Being so inexpensive and taking a decent edge....this is a knife you would feel comfortable abusing.

  • It’s worth it for me

I kinda missed this old school knifes But they get better as they get older and if u learned the tricks of this knifes it will be the only knife u will ever carry Btw u need to sand it once a month at least or the blade will change color or rust

  • Authentic Okapi

Surprisingly, fakes are somewhat common for such a cheap knife, but the one I received was an authentic Okapi. They aren't a Case as far as quality goes, but they lock up tight and take a great edge (after a little work). Mine was as expected in this regard, but I am quite happy with my purchase.

  • unique knife, great value

I already have literally hundreds of knives mostly "expensive" US and European knives but I didn't have anything from South Africa so I bought one for the collection and was quite surprised at how much fun it is. Sure its not an expensive knife but it is very functional, sturdy, and well worth the small amount of money it cost (less than the average lunch). The edge was very utilitarian and not exactly sharp but a few minutes on my sharpener had it super sharp thanks to the carbon steel. The ring-lock takes some getting used to but if you're a knife guy like me it is very fun to play with something different. I plan to buy a few more knives from Okapi just to have in my collection for some variety. I sliced up some boxes, cut some cheese for a sandwich and whittled some sticks and it ...
