About this product

Product Information

THE DEVIL AT 4 O'CLOCK is a disaster flick with a star-studded cast. Spencer Tracy stars as a priest who has lost his faith and has become an alcoholic. He is to be replaced by a new cleric on the South Seas island on which he works, arriving on a plane carrying three manacled convicts (Frank Sinatra, Gregoire Aslan, and Bernie Hamilton) on their way to prison on the main island of Tahiti. Tracy asks for permission to have the convicts help him finish the chapel at the island's hospital for children with leprosy, but, as they work, a series of earthquakes signal that the island's slumbering volcano might be waking. Finally, a huge quack erupts and the island's inhabitants prepare to evacuate, leaving Tracy, Sinatra, and company the responsibility of escorting the lepers to safety, a task that requires chaperoning them down the mountain, through the jungle, and out to the last evacuation boat before it departs at 4:00 sharp. The dark tale also includes a romantic element featuring Barbara Luna as a blind woman whom Sinatra can't refuse.

Wish it would've shipped in a bubble envelope instead of a paper one, but it arrived as described at a very low price, so I can't really complain. A+ Seller. Cheers!

    Good old-fashioned disaster movie

If you like good old-fashioned disaster movies, you can't go wrong with THE DEVIL AT FOUR O'CLOCK. Modern viewers unfamiliar with the genre might find it a bit puzzling. All the characters trapped on a tropical island with an erupting volcano are larger than life: three escaped convicts, an elderly alcoholic priest who questions his faith, a French ex-prostitute, a gorgeous blind girl, and a group of courageous children with leprosy. Their reactions to everything tend to be over-the-top as well. When angry, one man doesn't just punch another, he chokes him nearly to death and has to pulled off by the others. When the blind girl and one of the guys fall in love, less than 48 hours after they meet, they insist the priest marry them before they spend the night together. Everyone who dies, ...

  • A great add to any DVD collection... especially if your a Spencer Tracy fan

I bought The Devil At 4 O'clock because it was a movie I remembered from my childhood. I could only remember one scene..... the scene at the bridge towards the end of the flic. To my surprise upon doing some research of the film before buying, I discovered that it starred Frank Sinatra and Spencer Tracy. Tracy is excellent..... Sinatra his usual "kool" self. Although the beginning is a bit slow, it does build the tension in the movie well. Not a great flic, but a fun watch.... especially when remembering ones childhood.... :)
