This follow-up to WHISPER OF THE HEART centers around young Haru, who rescues a cat from being run over. The cat is no ordinary feline, however--he is the Prince of the Cats, and for saving him Haru is brought into the Kingdom of Cats to be his bride. But her feline friends Muta and the Baron may have a plan to rescue her from this unusual fate. Like many of the Studio Ghibli films, THE CAT RETURNS is a modern day ALICE IN WONDERLAND, featuring a protagonist who takes a trip into a wondrous and strange fantasy setting.

    Ever since seeing SPIRITED AWAY, I've been a huge fan of Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli. With charismatic and magical stories and beautiful animation Miyazaki's films have a charm that appeal to young and old alike. THE CAT RETURNS is another beautiful story about reaching for your dreams and learning to believe in yourself. A school girl named Haru saves a cat from being hit by a truck on her way home from school, and she's astounded to find out that not only can the cat talk, that he's the prince of the Kingdom of Cats. She's then kidnapped and taken to The Kingdom of the Cats, where she is expected to marry the prince! With the help of Baron, a cat figurine, she must learn to believe in herself, or risk being transformed into a cat forever! Starring the incredible voice talents ...

    Ghibli name, but no Ghibli characteristics

    for fans of Ghibli, this won't feel like a Ghibli: uninteresting characters, character growth that is assumed and not shown (example: protagonist is late in the beginning of film and in one scene at the end she becomes an early-riser while the position of being late was never challenged), interesting places left unexplored. Whisper of the Heart, the movie this one considers its prequel, has no recurring characters, save the Baron, and no good, grown-up, environmentalist, female empowerment themes like other Ghibli films. Skip, skip, skip. The least satisfying film from this studio. Buy instead: Nausicaa, Castle in the Sky, Whisper of the Heart, Pom Poko, Porco Rosso(others purchased this holiday season that were great)

    The Cat Returns

    My daughter Studio Ghibli. This is another excellent adventure. This actually is the sequel of the movie Places of the Heart, where the little girl sees the cat statue in an antique shop. I purchased this movie to add to our collection of Hayo Miyakaki movies. They all have a running theme of taking care of the earth/our environment, and the characters are so well thought out and creative. I would highly recommend adding this movie to your collection. Aoi Hiiragi's manga about a schoolgirl's adventures with a very unusual feline comes to the screen in this witty anime feature. Haru is a girl who one day saves the life of a cat while on her way to school. To her surprise, Haru learns she came to the rescue of no ordinary cat -- the kitty introduces her to the Kingdom of the Cats, ...

    Great Price! Product in perfect condition!

    The movie was okay it is about this girl who saves a cat's life and the king of cats tries to repay her by giving her things cats like. One of the gifts she receives is to marry the cat prince which she does not want to do. The prince shows up and says he is in love with a different cat and is going to marry her. Did I mention the king turn the girl into a cat? Then the King of cats wants to marry her but she doesn't want to marry him so she runs away and some friends that she meet along the way help her escape back into her world. I honestly had a hard time getting into this movie. I am a huge fan of Studio Ghilbli and Hayao Miyazaki and I was dissapointed that he was not the director. The actual animation I was not impressed with. This is an okay movie.
