Reviews
"9-11 was practically the only counter-narrative out there at a time when questions tended to be drowned out by a chorus, led by the entire United States Congress, of 'God Bless America.' . . . it is possible that, if the United States goes the way of nineteenth-century Britain, Chomsky's interpretation will be the standard among historians a hundred years from now." --New Yorker "A badly needed corrective to news coverage of the present-day 'war on terrorism.'" --Norman Solomon, San Francisco Chronicle Review "Every word of 9-11 is more relevant than ever." --Amnesty International Journal (Ireland) "Chomsky laments that the U.S. government largely dismissed these human rights problems in its quest to "secure our interests." The invasion of Afghanistan was far from the first time NATO overran unstable civilian populations in the search for terrorists (Chomsky offers several examples in the book) and, as we now know, it was not the last." --Foreign Policy in Focus

  • Rambling incoherent nonsense

I have to agree with the people who actually read the book and understand it. For those of us who were raised on the believability of all that is Chomsky this was an eye opener of colossal magnitude. If ever I could apply the word moron to an author this would be it. Nothing he says has any basis in fact and it all is like a wild eye LSD trip. Do you know the part in the movie back to the future where the title character says this guys an .....? Upon closing this book that was the only thing I walked away with. Sad part is that throughout my life I had read Chomsky works. We were taught to believe and take to heart this man's 'creations'. Part of me wants to go back and re-read with a critical eye and not the opinions of a favorite teacher. The other part shakes it's head and says why ...

  • 9-11 by Noam Chomsky (2001)

This was not an easy book for me to read. However, based on comments at the UN by several foreign leaders critical of the US, I thought it important that I do so. Also, in reading Orwell: The Betrayal of Dissent by Scott Lucas, I noted that Chomsky had indicated that Lucas had written an "important book." Chomsky's name coming up twice in one week and skyrocketing with a book on Amazon to 4th from some obscure position in the bottom of the barrel showed enough interest from the public that I took the plunge. I am in disagreement with Chomsky's position that America is out to dominate the world. I believe we live in the greatest country in the world and we have to fight like all get out to protect it from those who would attempt to destroy us. I hate any loss of ...

  • Chomsky Is Great

Don’t let the rube under me dissuade you from reading this book. Chomsky is thorough in his research, and this book has some great content. WhiteHorseRequest most likely can’t read well, and rated the book based off of their illiteracy and inability to understand the source material. It’s a good book on the War of Terror. Most of the criticism is from jingoistic individuals who identify with their country more than human beings, and are upset at any criticism.

  • Good book, but not what I thought it was

I love Chomsky, but I bought this book to hopefully learn more about 9-11, and the majority of the topics were on the War on Terror. I think the majority of people who buy this book want to see Chomsky's views on the events of 9/11, and this book does not really give good material for that. If you want a quick read on Chomsky's prediction on the War on Terror, (which were very accurate) then this is a good book.

  • Pretty good but repetative

I like Noam Chomsky and think he is a brilliant thinker but this book is not that interesting. One could probably read a FEW interviews with Noam Chomsky right after September 11 (which is exactly what this books is, but repeated many times in many different interviews) for free online instead of purchasing this book. Nevertheless, I will keep it.
