With rumors in the air of a possible Apache attack, a motley group of travelers in a small New Mexico town board the Overland Stage bound for Lordsburg. Among them are the pregnant Lucy Mallory (Louise Platt); timid liquor salesman Peacock (Donald Meek); Hatfield, an aloof gambler (John Carradine); Gatewood (Berton Churchill), a pompous, embezzling banker; and two who have been exiled from town, alcoholic Doc Boone (Thomas Mitchell) and Dallas (Clair Trevor), a lady of the evening. Along the trail, they pick up the Ringo Kid (John Wayne), an outlaw who's escaped from prison to take revenge on the Plummer brothers for destroying his family and framing him for murder. As their journey progresses, the hypocrisy of the supposedly respectable passengers becomes clear, and it's the tainted outsiders who display courage and humanity. Movie that made John Wayne a star
This is the one that made the DUKE a star they don't make westerns like this any more only thing that could make it better is to have movie in color and Widescreen but don't forget this was made in 1939. I really enjoyed this dvd and would recommend it to anyone and to see the DUKE as a young man was worth the price i gave for the movie. . ( Sure Miss Him )

Good movie
It's a good movie but first disk was factory messed up for it would only place the first half. No matter what you did, disk clean, clean lazer, and no smears or scratches, would it play the rest. It was just a bad DVD disk.

The Old West Will Never Be The Same Shoot Em Up
It waws interesting to watch where John Wayne got his start. This includes the explanatory material based upon the history of the relationship between John Wayne and Ford. The films quality was truly fabulous. Including the shoot em up tradition of westerns. I grew up in the southwest and have always liked westerns but usually prefer the sci-fi gendre. I have only seen a couple of films with John Wayne as the star in the past, and actually enjoyed watching the film that brought him out of the grade B westerns that he had been making for a decade prior to this. His relationship to Ford proved very interesting in the documentaries that accompanied this film. It definitely kept your attention and had great character development.
