  • World History in Child Friendly Format

This is the third of a four book series. I highly recommend all of them. This book covers world history events from 1600 to 1850. These books teach history in story form. The story format help students retain the facts and details. (For example:) Three years ago we studied book 1 (ancient history). Our family was recently watching a movie and a reference was made about Attilla the Hun. My ten year old (who was only seven when we read the story), says, "Hey I know him! He was the Barbarian who died from a nose bleed!" The stories are in chronological order starting with ancient history (book 1). Religion is included, but it should not be offensive to any religious group. It teaches about many important world religions (Chistian, Jewish, Buddhism, Islam, etc.)... it teaches a little ...

  • This book is a wonderful living history book, the kids beg for more & more!

This book is a wonderful overview of world and U.S. history. We are reading it aloud as a family, using it for elementary and middle school history. You know you have a good book when you come to the end of a chapter and the children beg you to keep reading! This is a well written book by an author who clearly loves history, and wants to tell the "story" of history, not get you to memorize dates only. There is a helpful timeline in the back to look up detailed dates, but in the writing it is not like textbooks where they list out boring events and dates with not much detail about the personalities of the people. I wish I had this book when I was learning history in school! I would also highly recommend the activity books that are available with this series.

  • LOVE Story of the World series by SW Bauer- excellent educational resource!

We have been homeschooling for 3+ years now, and LOVE this Story of the World series by Susan Wise Bauer. There's also a CD you can get where the child can just listen to the chapters, but my son and I prefer for me to read it aloud. We both learn, and then I use the test booklet and give the tests orally as well. This is the 3rd set we've purchased- and we will just keep using them until we finish the Story of the World. :)

  • Title is good, but maybe should contain word "history"

I like this resource for World History. It is a helpful way to get a good overview of the whole of the subject. I must say, though, I very much wish it began with the creation of the universe, as found in Scripture, and then continued with the flood. The beginning of the course does not begin with evolution. It starts with man as nomads, or hunter/gatherers. We know that they were nomads and farmers, because Adam was told he would till the ground, as punishment for his sin, and his son Cain was a farmer, while Abel was a shepherd. After Cain murdered Abel, he became a nomad. Beyond the fact this resource does not tie in Biblical events with history, it is a good review of most of the main events. We are just now getting to "the Jewish people" so am not done with the book yet.
