Disney thinks we are stupid. Save your dvd; Blu-ray transfer is garbage.
Don't waste your money on the Disney Movie Club version of Darby O'Gill. The film transfer is a minimal improvement at best, and not nearly as sharp a picture as you would expect from film to blu-ray. It is so bad that others have rightfully speculated it to be a dvd upscale. The real killer is they lopped off 25% of the vertical resolution. Had they kept it in its original 4:3 aspect ratio, viewers could have zoomed into the picture with their blu-ray or t.v. remote, if they just felt it necessary to fill their widescreen -- and there would have been no more loss of detail than after Disney's poor crop job.. But nope, Disney thinks we're stupid. Academy ratio would have been a better compromise, but still... why even consider compromising quality when it isn't necessary? The audio ... Don't waste your money on the Disney Movie Club version of Darby O'Gill. Perfect classic! Funny, entertaining, and Sean Connery!
Loved this movie!!! Just seeing it for the first time at 36. My husband saw it when he was a kid. I instantly had to buy it to add to our collection after viewing it. It was funny and fun, entertaining, sweet, shocking, everything! If you enjoy a good classic, I highly recommend this one. :)
