About this product

Product Information

The Samsung 840 Pro 256GB is the optimum internal hard drive for computer users searching for better performance. Speed and capacity combine to make this drive a must-have item for both the business and home consumer. Using the Samsung 840 Pro Series SSD, you gain convenient storage while your system runs faster than it would without the device. An SSD is a solid-state drive that stores information and data in flash memory. Using NAND chips, SSDs are also known as flash drives and are easily inserted into slots in a computer or laptop. At only 7 millimeters thick and weighing less than 2 ounces, this SSD has a 2.5-inch form factor. It takes up little room and will leave you with plenty of space for other accessories. The Samsung Pro 256GB internal SSD is great for use in desktop and laptop computers. Further, its size supports its use in tablets, notebooks, and even digital cameras. The standard SATA III measures an impressive 6GB/s to assist sequential read speeds. It has great compatibility with SATA 3GB/s and SATA 1.5GB/s. While it does have a small form factor, the SSD delivers an amazing performance. You’ll be able to boot your entire operating system in less than 20 seconds. In a solid-state drive, an SSD with strong specs can deliver a fast read that is measured in megabytes per second, or MB/s. The higher the MB/s count, the faster experience you will have. A faster read means it takes less time to open documents and find files. It also means you have a better gaming experience with less likelihood of lagging or crashing. A fast write allows you to save data and install software quickly. With its 540MB/s maximum read and a 520MB/s maximum write, you will experience amazing efficiency in your system. The storage on this 256GB device has a random read speed of 100,000 IOPS, which is input and output per second. It also has a random write of 90,000 IOPS. There are many other benefits of the Samsung 840 Pro SSD’s efficient design. The lack of moving components can extend the battery life of laptops or other devices by up to 50 minutes. For those seeking additional security, the 256-bit ATA full disk encryption safeguards your information. This model, the MZ-7PD256BW, is part of the Samsung Pro Series. It uses a type of stacked three-cell technology (TLC) for flash storage. Not only is this less expensive to manufacture, but it also offers great durability. This internal drive can help you increase memory and update the efficiency and responsiveness of your computer. The high-quality components of the Samsung Pro 256GB SSD make it an excellent choice. It has received great feedback from both reviewers and users alike. With the Samsung brand, you can be assured you are ordering an excellent product. With fast read and write speeds, the Samsung MZ-7PD256BW gives you a serious boost in performance.

Seller prompt with communication. Item shipped quickly & in padded pouch. My only negative is that the listing said WITH BOX - which is why I made an offer as it is a gift. BUT there was NO BOX. Am disappointed.

    Samsung 256GB SSD

It was a bit expensive for a small SSD. Plus, I purchased 2 of them. For just a little more, I could have gotten a much bigger drive. But I didn't want a bigger drive. For me, smaller is easier to watch over. I've read Samsung is among the best SSD, so that was a requirement. I think it was a good purchase because of the brand and the free shipping and multiple drives available at once. My only resentment is the price. One of the drives I received was a low 3Tb use drive, and the other was 13Tb data transfer drive: one low "mileage", one high "mileage". If I need more, I would do it again, even with the resentment, LOL. Preston

  • Makes me feel old.

Pros: This drive is ridiculous. To just say "it's fast" would be so inadequate as to be offensive. Gone are the days of launching BF3 then going into the kitchen to grab a drink and a snack, maybe take out the trash along the way. Now I can't get up to turn off the lights before I'm already in-game. (Not exaggerating) With the current setting I am running on the Magician software, I'm actually getting higher Read/Write speeds then the drive advertises, I'm getting "559/534MBps" on the average of 5 tests. Although my IOPS are much less "68,621/62,456 IOPS", again that's due to my current configuration. So far, this drive has been the epitome of my new build. Yes I do enjoy all the eye candy these games have to offer, but honestly, the ability to play and load this fast makes things so ...

  • Great, but don't even think about using the Samsung Data Migration tool!

The good part: Disk is great, real fast! Now the annoying part: Samsung data migration software is crap, it fails, on a Samsung netbook, AFTER it finishes copying. Yet it works perfect on a Lenovo. It will not let you copy any other disk than the system disk, so hooking up both the source and the destination to a different computer to make the copy is a non-starter. So after a whole day of trying different combinations, I gave up and used EaseUS to copy the disk, which worked on the first try. Now I have a perfectly functioning notebook, with a disk that already has been written more than twice (500GB on a 250GB drive). Good thing it is the MLC version, which supposedly can take more rewrites!

  • Great product but better Samsung migration software and support are needed.

I bought this SSD to improve the overall performance of my HTPC. After upgrading to a 2GB graphics card I noticed my HDD's were the lowest scoring components in Windows performance index. Now that I have the drive installed and working it has drastically improved the performance of my system but getting it up and running was an unexpected challenge. First off, the Samsung software I downloaded failed to migrate the drive with a cryptic error message which left me at the mercy of Windows backup. I had created a system image beforehand but Windows wouldn't allow me to use it for restore, presumably because I was booting from my [current] primary SATA HDD and had my image stored on another internal SATA HDD. In the end I had to reinstall Windows, which was particularly upsetting since I ...
