Affordable Classic
It's the lens, not the megapixels. The photos I have taken with this camera with a Canon 50mm 1.8 stm, are sharp and the color rendered by the lens and the camera's processing beat shots fron some cameras with a considerably higher megapixel count. I like the CMOS sensor, not quite full size, but bigger than the more compact Canons and the Nikon DX sensor. Get yourself a better tripod- shooting the recent lunar eclipse at ex posures of 4 to 8 seconds, it took a half second for the camera ti stop shaking after pressing the shutter button ( should have had a remote). Rich color, and a satisfying " my camera is bigger than yours" feelingIt's the lens, not the megapixels. 1D M2, solid professional camera
I bought this camera because of the body built qualities. I also own the 1d and a 40d but I often find myself using the old 1D more than anything. The body feels so solid and hasn't failed me even though it's over ten years old. On the other hand, I just received the 1D M2 and the same built qualities are there, once you grip it, it gives you the same feeling of confidence its predecessor does. I just did a small portrait session of a one very active year old and set the cam to AI servo(continuous focus) with a 70-200 F4L non IS and one mono light (Calumet Genesis 200) with a Creative Light Soft Box Umbrella and the results are stunning. The colors of the camera resolution, calibrated with a Color Checker Passport for white balance and custom colors settings for ... I bought this camera because of the body built qualities. I made 5 prints with an Epson R2880 on Epson's Matte Paper (rated 5 stars) and the saturation, sharpness of the lens and cam resolution really pay off once you see a live print. I know that folks often debate about pixels and all other crap about the latest BS and want to make a fashion statement while wearing the cam around their necks, but let me say this "try to be the most informed about what you want and what you want it for." I am confident that I can pull-off a 20x30 print out of this cam and tack sharp because I have done it with the 40D and both cams are not that far off. I love this cam because you can shoot at a slow pace or you can gun it and it will perform flawlessly. The only down side if any it's just the weight...but you consider that you can take this cam in many different environments and pair it with pro glass if you'd like or just plain basic lenses. I have shot with the 1D M2 and a nifty 50, the old version with the metal attachment which they're not made anymore it's a 1.8 which probably weighs about ten times lighter than the L 1.2 version and the shaved price tag and have gotten great results. I bought this cam to shoot weddings, head shots, macro, portraits etc... Love the shutter smooth and quiet... other cams feel a bit like toys once you get a taste of the 1D line up... Things I like: solid body, custom functions, battery power, shutter, color resolution, very ergonomic.... Dislikes: weight....that's it....love my new cam.....

Great pro camera at a bargain price.
I bought this camera because I wanted a pro body at an inexpensive price. These cameras can be found for less than 400$ on Ebay these days. So far the pictures look pretty good despite me not having any great lenses. The camera only has 8 megapixels but that is plenty for normal pictures. This camera has tons of features and custom settings, most of which I do not know how to use yet. The camera can use sd or cf memory cards which is nice. This camera is quite large and heavy but I knew that and I don't mind. It feels and obviously is very high quality. It looks cool too. This camera is very water resistant also which is a nice bonus. As for the value I think for the bargain prices these go for now they are a great deal. This camera has a few very minor drawbacks. This ... My experience thus far with the Canon 1D mk ii
The Canon 1D mark ii remains a stunning piece of equipment even though the model is 10 years old. This is after all a "pro" camera and has many excellent features such as save-able settings, custom color settings, histogram displays and much much more. If your looking to upgrade from a prosumer DSLR (Nikon or Canon) and can't afford some of the higher end models, you should at least explore this an one of many options. I have been satisfied so far with my purchase. I switched from Nikon to Canon with this purchase and I must say the camera has been easy to learn thus far. The manual is fairly easy to read and has online PDFs available. Also I just recently upgraded the firmware; a step that took, at most, 5 minutes and allowed me to use all my SD cards. The camera also seems very solidly built. Coming from my little Nikon and its finicky battery grip, this camera seems unbreakable. The only real things I could say is not positive, not really a negative either, is the low megapixel. 8.2 and the age. This MP count is low for today's cameras (5D, 7D D90s and what not all shooting in above 14 or so) but with the right glass it doesn't really matter. As for the age of the camera certain functions are different if you've shot one of the Rebels or other cameras. For instance you have to press the select button while rolling the scroll wheel. In the newer cameras you don't have to do this. But you get used to that very quickly. They do still make some parts for it, but many are aftermarket and I am not sure about Canon's repair policies on these older models. Just something to consider. All in all I'd say its worth looking into. Shoot one if you can get your hands on a copy and see how it feels to you. It's weighty don't misunderstand that, but its manageable for most.

Fantastic camera! I've previously owned two Canon 1D originals and two 1D MkIIs. Now that the prices have come down a bit, the bigger screen and extra controls are well worth the price difference over the 1D MkII. It takes an older (but still great!) camera and makes it more modern. This body is always my go-to camera, with fast response times and excellent colour rendition.
